I have a Custom tele, that I really like. It has a Sam Cobalt at the neck, and a DiMarzio D-Sonic at the tail. The DiMarzio D-Sonic is a little harsh for me, as I like some sweetness in my twang.

Are there any replacments for tail buckers, that would mellow this thing out?

On the Seymour Duncan site they have the full sized 59 the Pearly Gates, JB, and other full sized humbuckers that are very excellent, no affln. Maybe a low output humbucker would be very smooth. Real twang will come from a regular tele bridge pickup. My
Fender FMT HH Custom tele has a Pearly Gates Plus at the bridge that is super nice. The SD JB is hotter but not harsh. The Gibson 57 Plus is also a super great bridge pickup that will sound like a great humbucker.
