Perkins became the oldest living artist to win a Grammy when he won one for best traditional blues album (Joined at the Hip, a collaborative project with Willie “Big Eyes” Smith) just last month. His piano style was among the most influentual of the original Mississippi Delta bluesmen. I was fortunate to see him play with Muddy Waters in '78, opening for Clapton.

After listening to him on the 2007 CD and DVD, Kenny Wayne Shepherd - 10 Days Out (Blues From The BackRoads), I became interested in Pinetop again. I thought he retired, but realized he was still touring. I even spoke to Mrs. Tig yesterday about how it would be cool to see him play live, not knowing he would day the same day.

Sad news. I also saw him for the first time on Kenny Waynes DVd and I was impressed by him.
