View Full Version : Going to see Tesla on April Fool's Day

Tesla is playing at a casino about an hour from where I live, so I figured what the heck? I haven't ever seen them, and I really liked their stuff back in the 80s. I am bringing a guitar playing friend from work, so it should be good times. I suppose I should give their latest album a listen. I think the latest one is from 2009. Any Tesla fans here?

Oh ya baby! Those guys are great. The last two albums are awesome. Into the Now is a real satisfier. Forever More sounds a little different but still good. My favorite is Into the Now.

Hang out after and meet the guys. It'll be great. Lucky dog.

Because I wasn't reading this too closely and my mouse cursor was over one of the words, I thought the album title you mentioned was Into the Rear.

Yeah, I might just see if I can meet them. To be honest, I can't remember anyone's name from Tesla anymore. I'll have to do some research. Maybe I'll bring the pickguard from my incoming Agile for them to sign, or something.

I think somebody here (maybe Kazz?) named their daughter after Tesla's guitarist. His name is something Hanna or Hannah I think. Obviously I know them extremely well, on a personal level.

I remember reading that at some point. Where is Kazz these days? Haven't seen him around.

Sweet! I saw them on tour with Def Leppard back in the fall of '87, IIRC. I was one of the few who knew who Tesla was at the time. DL put on a great show but I liked Tesla better. I'll never forget their guitar player breaking his E string on the six string neck of his double-necked SG, so he finished the solo on the 12 string neck. I believe it was on "Modern Day Cowboy." "Mechanical Resonance" is an awesome album. "The Great Radio Controversy" is the first CD I ever bought.

So how was the show? Or was this an April Fools joke on us?

The show was great! Those guys look like they haven't aged in 25 years, and they play like that, too. I wasn't familiar with the newer stuff, but it really didn't matter because it was a great show.

For guitars, Frank used a couple Flying Vs, a Les Paul, an SG and a double neck SG, as well as an acoustic (wasn't close enough to see what brand). Dave played a couple Les Pauls, a BC Rich Mockingbird, and what looked like an Epi Les Paul semi-hollow. I thought at first it was one of the semi-hollow Les Paul Florentines, but it had a normal horn. The headstock looked like my Epi Flamekat, so that's what has me thinking it may have been an Epi. Brian played a couple Firebirds, and a Univox or Hofner violin bass. Frank used Marshalls, and the other two were using Hartkes. Very tight sound, perfect mix, and just loud enough to really rock without causing pain to the earholes.

The venue was really small (1200 people), which made the show nice and intimate. I'll definitely have to see more shows there. A very good experience, all the way around!
