I don't drink coffee, and I despise Wallymart. I guess I'm a fringe American.

One of my Dad's life long buddies was married to a woman from Arkansas who worked in the original Walmart in her early years.
She later said,
"Sam Walton used to chase me when I was young... I should have let that old man catch me!"

I always though that was a funny story.

Interesting. I don't tend to go to either very much, but I will readily admit I'm more likely to wander into a Walmart, but that's just because I don't drink coffee.

Strangely enough, at this point I've been to a Starbucks more recently than a Walmart. My world is falling apart...

Wal-Mart appears to have a stronger presence in less-affluent states and Starbucks in more affluent ones.

I guess that's not a big surprise. Each of those corporations targets very different consumers.

Since politics and economics seem so closely intertwined, I'll not say any more on this.

There are Wal-Mart stores in most towns with at least 5000 pop. within our area, I can only name one Starbucks within 60 mile of me but it's either the mall or WAl-mart or both, we don't very many other stores to choose from and they do supply a good amount of jobs to people who would otherwise leave or be without. No, I'm not satisfied with a lot of their products and they are high priced on 90% of their items.

Wal Mart claims to bring in jobs, but in truth they are jobs that one can barely survive on. Mom worked there so I know from first hand experience (at least at the store she worked at) that they treat employees absolutely horrible. On top of that the one thing they certainly brought was crime and unwanted or needed urban sprall.

Whenever Wal-Mart comes to town you can count on losing 90 percent of the downtown businesses formerly run by local owners/operators.

If you've never visited this site, you owe it to yourself for a few laughs and some WTF's.
