OK, but this is getting a little out of hand, esp. for a guy who just plays for his own amusement in his "man cave":

Fender Blues Junior, modified out the ying-yang (http://www.thefret.net/showthread.php/14948-Some-MAJOR-work-planned-for-my-Blues-Junior....):

http://www.duhvoodooman.com/miscimages/musical/BJr/BJr_full.jpg

My original amp mod project, a used v.1 Epiphone Valve Jr. combo that I bought for $90 and have spent about $250 on doing various upgrades (http://www.thefret.net/showthread.php/6423-The-Valve-Jr-transformation-is-complete....). Don't look for sense/reason in this exercise--it was a "learning experience." At least, that's what I keep telling myself:

http://www.duhvoodooman.com/miscimages/musical/VJr.jpg

The only amp I've ever built from the ground up--a little 1.5W "Firefly" DIY project amp head (http://www.thefret.net/showthread.php/5702-Firefly-1.5W-Tube-Amp-Build). It's got about as much headroom as an old VW bug, but it's fun to do a 1.5W impression of a Marshall stack with it:

http://duhvoodooman.com/miscimages/musical/ffly/ffly_assembled_front.jpg

An Egnater Rebel 20W head I bought used from a guy on TGP. The EL84/6V6 output tube "blend" function on this is just too cool:

http://www.duhvoodooman.com/miscimages/musical/Rebel20.jpg

The tiny-yet-amazing Mesa Boogie Transatlantic TA-15 head. The tonal flexibility of this little gem is just astonishing:

http://www.duhvoodooman.com/miscimages/musical/TA-15/TA-15_closeup.jpg

My most recent acquisition, a modified clone of the Trainwreck Rocket amp head built by musician/electronics maven Jeff Rubin. Best clean tone of any amp I have ever played through:

http://i52.photobucket.com/albums/g9/geekmacdaddy/firesale/IMG_2699.jpg

The infamous "he-bought-it-now-will-he-ever-build-it??" Trinity 18W TMB Marshall clone kit. Here's the cabinet....pretty!

http://duhvoodooman.com/miscimages/musical/Trinity18W/Trinity_cab_front.jpg
http://duhvoodooman.com/miscimages/musical/Trinity18W/Trinity_cab_back.jpg

OK, with 4 amp heads and a 5th that honest to God I'm going to build sometime soon, I need a couple of speaker cabs to play through. So....

Here's a 1x12 cabinet I bought built to order from a guy on the web who obviously used to work for Lopoline. Currently has a nice Weber VST P12Q alnico speaker in it that I got used on Craigslist:

http://www.duhvoodooman.com/miscimages/musical/1x12_cab_front.jpg

Here's a 2x12 Drive ported cabinet that got from Music123.com when they were blowing them out for $80 & free shipping!! Unbelievable value on a very solidly made cabinet in an unfortunate (for me) color, since none of my other gear is red. I removed the two rather cheap Eminence speakers and now have it loaded with a WGS Green Beret and an Eminence Wizard. Sounds wonderful:

Since I sold my Marshall, both of my tube amphs lack reverb. The Cube 60 is the only amph I own with reverb now. Guess I should be looking for a good pedal.

The HT-5 is an awesome amp to be sure. I love the IFS (Infinite Shape Feature). Lots of tonal variety there.

And Doug, anytime you want to trade your Tweaker for the HT-5, just say the word!

Yeah, after a month of waiting I gave up. BassNW had this used Berg cabinet in for a similar price to the Hartke. Bergs are usually well out of my pice range, being boutique and all. The guy at BassNW didn't want to make the exchange for a used cab and insisted that they could only apply my credit to a new cab. I said "fine, I want my money back then since Hartke can't deliver the product in a timely manner." He called the owner and said that they'd make an exception this one time.

Seems like bull$*#) to me.

At any rate, I really like the new cab and it seems to pair well with the Hartke.

Gahh!!

Stoopid me, I blew out the Berg at practice last night. I should know better than to use a single 112 cabinet with a full band. Last song of the evening and I get that nasty broken gnarl tone of a blown driver.

Time for a recone.

Playing bass guitar has its own set of equipment challenges...

This is hardly the first driver I've shredded. You'd think I might learn something eventually.

Going forward, I'll stick to using both 112s and may spring for a bigger cab like the new Avatar 3-way. Lots of glowing reports on those and it would probably be a much better solution for outdoor gigs.

Very nice, Matt!
How do you like your Blackstar?

I like it very much. I think I am over the honeymoon period with it now and can judge it a tad more truthfully. At low volumes, it sounds great with the PRS. The drive channel really responds well to the humbuckers and the tonal scope available on the ISF is quite large. It cleans up really nicely too. The clean channel is quite a clear deep sounding clean, but it sounds a bit 'dry'. I can't think of anyway else to describe it. Its not a bad sound- also, because it doesn't break up until obscenely high volumes, its great for taking drive pedals.

With my Strat however, it really needs to be cranked to appreciate it. The added compression and warmth from the power tubes makes both channels sounds great. At low volumes, the drive is quite shrill with the Strat although the clean still sounds really good. I've been considering a speaker upgrade for a bit more bass response.

I've come to realise that a 20 Watt valve amp really shouldn't be considered a bedroom amp and it is more suited for jams and small gigs. Oh well, just means I need another amp :D

Unless the speakers need additional bass for all of your guitars, you might consider changing the Strat's pickups. Bare Knuckle Pickups makes a few Strat pickups with fuller bass than most Fender pickups come with. Check out the Vintage Hot series in particular. http://www.bareknucklepickups.co.uk/main/pickups.php?cat=strats

The demos made by Robert of his new Hell Guitar No. 2 (T-style) has the Bare Knuckles "Boss" Tele pickups, which have a great sounding and rich bass range.

Haha, well there's a lot of it, anyhow. But the majority is funky DIY stuff made of disparate things thrown together, and none is really droolworthy in a boutique or collectible kinda way.

It is kinda cool that I could probably simultaneously backline 3 power trios if I had too, though. ;)

Except I find funky, functional stuff that sounds good almost more droolworthy than collectible type stuff. Except maybe a true original late 50's Bassman. That I might choose to collect.

Thanks guys. Basically what's fallen into my lap over the years. I don't really ever go out looking for stuff. I promise!

Yeah Brian, you have some cool stuff! That old Sunn 2000 is way cool. I really like your cobbled-together stuff, too. Shweet!

Thanks fellers. Almost all of it works! The bottom cab to the Super has a bad connector wire that I need to re-solder, and I may have blowed up that Peavey 2x10, last couple times I tried to use it it was all distorty. Other than that, and the Super being in desperate need of a new grille for purely cosmetic purposes, I'm pretty sure everything is functioning amp-wise.

I did leave out my "PA gear," such as it is. I have an old Tapco 6000R 6-channel mixer, an old Peavey "EIGHT HUNDRED" 8-channel mixer, and a Peavey XR-500 5-channel 130W (@ 4 ohms, prolly around 100W at 8 ohms) mixer amp. Both the first two of those have some missing/busted knobs, but are still usable. I used to have a couple small monitors but never used them so I sold them. For mains I have some old Kasino columns, I think each has 4 10"s. The input jack on one of those needs fixing, but I shudder to think how many screws that would entail taking out of the back panel.

And of course around 3 mics (one an actual SM-57, haha!) with an equal number of mic stands, and the necessary cables.
