A cool article from The Selvedge Yard (http://theselvedgeyard.wordpress.com/), home of feature articles and photography on American music, arts, cars, motorcycles, and anarchy.

Check out the complete article: "You Know I've Got Soul" - The Legendary 1967 Stax European Tour (http://theselvedgeyard.wordpress.com/2011/05/03/you-know-ive-got-soul-the-legendary-1967-stax-european-tour/)

Stax management knew they had to tear it up every night if they were going to realize the commercial gains they wanted for themselves and their artists. So they stacked the tour with an all star team– Sam and Dave, Eddie Floyd, and Arthur Conley were backed by the legendary Stax house band Booker T. and the MG’s and there equally epic horn section The Mar-keys.

Cool video of Steve Cropper/Booker T and the MG's that I've never seen. (1 of 6)

I've often pointed to the Stax tour and wondered why a label like Daptone doesn't do the same, particularly as the Daptone guys point to Stax as their model for the recording end of things. I'd love to see the Budos Band and Sharon Jones & The Dap Kings on the same bill. They also have several other bands in the stable that would make for a show that'd be nearly impossible to sit down for. Stax had a great concept. Can't believe more people don't follow it.
