The secret weapon in that lineup is Reed Mathis. I saw him in around 2002 when he was with Jacob Fred Jazz Odyssey.

He is definitely an enjoyable bass player to watch work live. He often blurs that line between bass and lead guitar which is a good thing. I think too many people forget that an electric bass is a guitar.

In JFJO the lineup was organ/keys, bass and drums so there was plenty of room for Mathis to step out front melodically in places.
