I'm the first to admit that I'm not a dyed-in-the-wool Skynyrd fan now. I'm not evan a NASCAR fan :-) But I did listen to them a lot during my formative years as a guitar player. I am forever in debt to the influence of Steve Gaines on my playing. When I heard this song for the first time it was one of those moments that seems to be etched into my memory forever. This guy has such a fluid style and such an unpredictable, chromatic sound to his lines that seem to be influenced from Jazz, Blues, Texas Swing, and other things. I'm still amazed at the playing in this song and his style overall. I keep finding cool things in some of these old guitar solos that the guys in Lynyrd Skynyrd played. They could really play! It's a shame that Steve Gaines, in particular, lost his life in the prime of his career. There were many more solos that I wished I could have learned from him. I'm still trying to get this one right after all these years!
