We had a gig last Friday night and between songs I was busy doing something when all of a sudden my LP 50's Tribute did a belly flop on the hard tile floor. The keyboard player was recording the set on his Iphone and got the crash and sent me a clip. I guess I was pretty lucky it landed flat, face down, and nothing major happened. It had a bad hum, luckily I had a backup guitar. I took it apart to look for broken connections today but didn't find any. 'Plugged it back in and all is good ~
I'm such a dope sometimes. On my website I even wrote that strap locks are not an excuse for having a hand on your guitar at all times. Well, I wasn't using strap locks, but I didn't have a hand on my guitar either. I was using a strap made of really soft leather and it's had a lot of use so it's not exactly a snug fit anymore.

Glad your LP didn't get hurt too bad, otaypanky... look at the bright side, some people pay good money for 'vintage-worn,' and you just got some wear for free. BTW, if you need a new guitar strap I know a helluva good guy in Pennsylvania, somewhere. ;-)

I'm glad the LP survived!

I've had to put a small amount of wood glue in the hole for my strap lock buttons because I caught them backing out. Several times I managed to see that the upper horn's strap lock button was almost falling out.

This is a problem with most strap locks. The new screw is shorter or smaller in diameter that the stock one. I've had to machine down the outer diameter of the old, larger screw's head to fit inside the strap lock button. Unrelated, I still have to add the wood glue to secure the threads.

The Schallers can also come apart. I don't mean that the nut gets loose. Rather the pin that you pull to release the strap lock is screwed to the pin that extends in to the button, with a spring in between. The pin and pull know can loosen and separate.
Maybe I should play lying down?

Interesting. I've now tried Dunlop, Schaller, and Marvel, and Dunlop is currently my favorite.

Playing lying down sounds like a good plan! Either that or playing seated. You could gig in a recliner!

Sadly, no, that is not my horse. It's a picture from a small horse show on Salt Spring Island (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Saltspring_Island). I've been trying to convince my wife that a horse would do just fine in our apartment but she's not buying it.

Lucky. One of my LP st's fell 1.5 feet from laying on the bed ta belly flop flat on the carpet. Totally snapped neck off at the headstock angle at the truss rod adj. port. The repair job renders it battle scarred and next to worthless in resale, but plays and sounds great. Never will be the same.

After reading the thread before listening, I knew what it was. I still did an involuntary cringe when I heard it.
