I'm having Tom take another one of my podcasts this week...we hosted a clinic for the local Orange County Blues Meetup group this weekend and one of the things we were discussing was how to play with a second guitarist...if you think of one player as the "Top" and the other as the "Bottom" it makes things much easier. One reason is that you end up not playing in the same octave all of the time which will muddy up the mix of the band pretty fast.

As an introduction to this kind of playing Tom took a really simple idea from a Little Walter song and has expanded it over an entire 12 bar blues chord progression for you.

Here is a great example of two guitarists playing a "Top and Bottom" kind of approach although this song is a Box Shuffle instead of the "Lump" that we are using in this lesson:

I believe that these are the Meyers brothers playing guitar on this recording and there is a great sense of their parts having a well defined roll in the overall mix...no one is just playing random solos through the song under Little Walters harmonica playing although the "Top" part has many different parts. The bottom stays fairly consistent throughout the song.

Here is the lesson!

Fantastic lesson by Tom! It took smaller licks I had and put them together in a Tig-proof lesson.

Tom is a great player and teacher.
