Wow! Great sounding record. Production is perfect and song material is engaging and very well done. Most importantly - NO COOKIE MONSTER VOCALS. Amazon full album preview. (http://www.amazon.com/Heritage-Opeth/dp/B004G25V9S)

Check it out. It's in my top 5 albums of 2011.

I thought Opeth was all about the Cookie Monster--or isn't my memory as good as it should be?

Mikael A. does both. He's really got a beautiful singing voice but probably to meet the fan base need he also did the cookie monster thing in the past as well. I fell in love with his singing voice on the Ayreon album "The Human Equation."

I'm still listening to the new album. It's pretty good but I still need some time with it to make up my mind.
Frankly, I like the growling voices. Certainly, it is an acquired taste, it took a lot of listening before I started
to dig it. Just think of the growling as a guitar with distortion. ;-)

BTW, I have tickets to see them and Katatonia (http://katatonia.com/) on October 13th. :dude

Blackwater Park and a few others are very cookie monster-y, but I first listened to them on Watershed, which has a lot of both sides of Opeth. Damnation, as many here have mentioned before, is completely devoid of the growling.
