Not sure how many tried wood picks, but I got a collection of Timber Tones and they are very nice... bright, yet warm (although depending on the hardness). As impressive, they have picks made from bone and horn and I use them as much as the wood picks. They have a shell collection, but I have not tried them yet. I did an extensive review on them at this link:

Great collection. I like it very much. The review shared here is very useful one and thank you for sharing here with us.

I like wood picks too, but they wear down too fast for me.

I only use picks made from fossilized penguin feet. They give me that Hounddog Taylor/Andre Segovia tone. ;)

They wear a bit faster than nylon, etc., but I love their tone. As well, they make shell and bone picks that sound great! I'm getting a custom guitar made with silver hardware, and I found a silver pick to compliment the final product:

I made these from old silver coins. If you play like I do your new custom guitar will soon look like a flock of woodpeckers on bath salts attacked it
