I lost my password a month or so ago and hadn't been posting lessons here for a while....looks like I have some backlog to catch up on :)

This week I am giving you the first application for the diminished chords that we learned last week: http://markweinguitarlessons.com/forums/content.php?485-Lick-of-the-Week-Diminished-Chords!

This is a lick or idea that I probably overuse when I play blues. The idea is that on the 6th measure of a 12 bar blues (the second measure of the IV chord) I like to superimpose a diminished chord or lick a half step higher than the IV chord. So if the IV chord is a D7 then I'll play a D# diminished idea in that measure and it gives me a nice way to make a tension that wants to resolve in the I chord. The music in this lesson has three variations of the lick and one rhythm or "comping" idea that I stole from a Kirk Fletcher video a few months ago http://markweinguitarlessons.com/forums/images/smilies/s.gif

The backing track that I jam over in the video is from Texas Blues Guitar (http://www.amazon.com/dp/0793599644/ref=as_li_ss_til?tag=markweinguita-20&camp=213381&creative=390973&linkCode=as4&creativeASIN=0793599644&adid=1MAFB8XPMQVWW8SCQCCX&&ref-refURL=http%3A%2F%2Frcm.amazon.com%2Fe%2Fcm%3Flt1% 3D_blank%26bc1%3D000000%26IS2%3D1%26bg1%3DFFFFFF%2 6fc1%3D000000%26lc1%3D0000FF%26t%3Dmarkweinguita-20%26o%3D1%26p%3D8%26l%3Das4%26m%3Damazon%26f%3Dif r%26ref%3Dss_til%26asins%3D0793599644) by Robert Calva. I use the book/CD set for many of my beginning blues students....it not only has two ways of playing rhythm for a variety of blues styles it also has a written solo for each style and a whole section on licks and scales that the beginning blues guitarist can really use to get going playing the style.

Also, I want to let everyone know about the Skype guitar classes that both Tom Harkenrider and myself are offering. More info here: http://markweinguitarlessons.com/forums/showthread.php?32180-Skype-Guitar-Classes-now-available!

I like how this opens up the possibilities to break out of the usual blooz rut.
Thanks, Mark!
