Threads about guitars with a relic'd finish usually bring about a heated discussion with people firmly entrenched on both sides.
But I'd guess this would just leave most folks scratching their head

I'm pretty fired up about this model. It's from the Private Reserve stock!

So they make a pre-burnt one for those who want to pretend they're Jimi.
Do they make a pre-smashed one for those who want to pretend they're Pete Townshend?

See..... For all you doubters!(my parents) $50 worth of old guitar parts can fetch $62** $63**...... $6499??? Had to look at it twice!!!
And before anybody says it...... those are not genuine '65 parts there using just stuff they left in a box outside somewhere in Montreal.

Funny thing, Larry Hartke (Hartke bass amps) plays a burned relic bass.

I very much wonder if Fender will sell any of those.

While I don't really care much for the relic look, I played a road-worn strat that was an incredible guitar.

That makes me wonder - If I found a relic model that sounded and played like a dream, then could I accept the looks of it?

I've found several at local music stores that had genuine tour rash on them. The last one I found was a Standard Strat for $299 that did in fact played and sounded like a dream. Left it.... went home.... went back two hours later to buy it and it was gone. It was a very sad day...! :(

Besides for that price I'll gladly blow torch your favorite guitar!! Email me... I'm sure I can fit a few in before Christmas. :thumbsup

Don't misunderstand me, I'm not knockin' a relic, it's the 'burned' thing that has me puzzled. It looks more like blobs of flat spray paint in the photo ~
Jimi playin' in the 70's at the Village theater, all tripped out, and lightin' up his Strat? Well I guess that seemed perfectly natural in a 70's sort of way.
This? Not so much ~~~

What good is it if you don't have a true, great story behind the burned guitar that survived the catastrophic fire, etc?

"Wow, looks like your guitar has been through quite a bit. What happened to it?"
Owner, "Um, nothing. I bought it new from the factory like this for, um $6500." ...Epic fail... http://markweinguitarlessons.com/forums/images/smilies/undecided.gif

I'll bet it didn't have the poly finish that Fender puts on the MIMs. My Strat survived a fire, and all it had on it was some soot. Wiped it down, and it was good as new.

Had I known I could put a price that high on it, I'd have priced it at $5999, placed it on the 'bay, and sold it before I wiped it down and destroyed "relicing."

Why do they never relic acoustic guitars?
