Hey thanks guys, it's appreciated. :)
Gonna' try and route all the holes out and maybe do some neck work tomorrow.
If everything goes OK, I should have the finish sprayed on by the end of the week. *fingers crossed*

No Elphs this time tot,,,LOL

ZoSo, did you sketch the body shape first, use a tracing, or did you freehand it?

ZoSo65
December 3rd, 2006, 09:59 AM
Thanks SS. :)
tot, I traced the deluxe strat body I have, then made a template out of mdf, modified it a slight bit, clamped it on the walnut and routed the new shape.
Almost all the routing is done with templates that I make. The belly relief and arm relief, I just eye-balled it with a belt sander to get the initial shape then hand sanded them to get them flowing properly.

I was finally able to do some work on my project. Hopefully this weekend won't be a total loss and I can get some more finished.
I'm going to use a pre-cat lacquer on this one, it's fully cured in 24hrs, No nitro wait *snicker* So it will be finished for Christmas. Plus it's a little more durable, which will be good for my step daughter,,hehe

What is pre-CAT lacquer & at what point & why do cats get involved?
I suppose that if you were going for a furball finish...

I didn't realize that this is a gift for your step daughter! Too cool!

That's our ZoSo, one heck of a purrr-fectionist. Sorry, couldn't resist on that one!

The guitar's gonna look beautiful, and your daughter should be proud. Mrs. Katastrophe even commented on how good the guitar is looking, and she normally rolls her eyes when I try to talk guitar with her.;) :D

Ooooo, commision her a gen-u-wine ZoSo guitar & you n' Mrs Kat
(there seems to be a surfeit of cats in this thread) can jam into the night.

Got this idea the other night when I was thinking of some kind of label for the headstock.
Hell with the label, let it be part of it! (this is only the rough cut)

yes, that's my stepdaughters name,, heh

Now that is freakin' cool! Great idea ZoSo.

You should make raindrop shaped fret markers.

Rain is a great name for a rock star.

Thanks tot!
I thought about doing the raindrop markers, but I'm limited on time

Got a good 9+ hours work done on the project over the weekend.

Cleaned up the headstock.
(penciled part of letters is just roughed in)
http://home.comcast.net/~mrzoso/nguitar/finalcut.jpg

Fret markers in, neck stained, and sealed.
http://home.comcast.net/~mrzoso/nguitar/neckfrontsealer.jpg

http://home.comcast.net/~mrzoso/nguitar/neckrearsealer.jpg

Got rear of body primed and quilt sealed.
http://home.comcast.net/~mrzoso/nguitar/bodysealer.jpg

Plus a few odds and ends got taken care of.
A good final sanding and I'll be laying on the color and clear coats.

Over and out.

Just got her done!
I think it came out OK, considering I had to strip it down, re-dye, re-lacquer, etc., etc.
There's even pink strings on her. LOL
Gave her a test run through my DeltaBlues, and she sounds real good. That surprised me since the PUPs where some no-namers,,hehe

My son's fiance dyes her hair pink (on the days that it isn't purple, or lime green, or ..).

She would just kill for that guitar.

Where'd'you find pink string?

Excellent work. Really liked the added touches, like the pink markers and white on the back of the headstock. Just curious-How much time (in hours) do you have in it? I have put together Part-O-Casters but never a full build like this.
Thanks, Dave
