Water, water everywhere!

Here in the Northwest we get some rain occasionally, as you may know. Lately, we've had more than the usual rain, and that resulted in some (no surprise here) flooding. It's not the worst I've been through, but it's still not the ideal situation.

Here's a little glimpse of what's going on around me:

This is a mobile home park in Salem. It doesn't look that bad, but there's probably 4-6" of standing water in a lot of places.

This is one of two routes from our area into Salem. We had to turn around and take the other route, obviously. The fact that the road is closed is kept shrouded in mystery until you've already crossed over the bridge and are right up on top of the closed gate.

Same park. If you look to the left of center, you can see the tops of the playground equipment.

It's raining now, and probably will be off and on for a while yet. It's not the downpours that we've had, so things are starting to dry out a little, but there's still plenty of standing water all around us. Our house is safe, at least for a while.

It wasn't any fun for me on Thursday night. I was jamming at Dave's north of Corvallis, and headed home a little after 10, only to find that Marys River flooding had caused the blockage of all southbound traffic at the bridge. I had to go home via Peoria road, through Harrisburg and Junction City, then back north to Corvallis, more than 60 miles out of my way. C'est la vie.

We had 2" of snow in Philly yesterday, along with 2/10" of ice....and in some spots, it was treacherous beyond belief. I came out of church tonite and went down this one street. Came to a stop sign and stopped completely. Gave the car just a bit of gas and I did a 135 degree spin from a standing stop!!! Never-ever had that happen to me.

those boys I coach are getting good! It was a nice weekend of play. A lot of people played a little hooky thursday and friday, and carried it though the weekend, they were so excited about the new snow. I got in a little time Thurs and Fri myself, though I also worked. It is snowing again now! May not add up to a whole lot more, but will certainly help to keep it soft. Working all day today though.


EDIT: As I look back over this, I feel I should have recognized the trouble you (frankenfretter) were going through. I hope it is starting to subside. I used to live in Salem long ago, and I never saw it like that. Though I do remember it getting very wet!

We've had a series of snow/ice/snow/rain/wind in pretty much that order. We never lost our power, but a lot of people in the area did. I think it's still about 60,000 without power due to the ice storm and following wind.

Still plenty of slush around here with more rain and wind on the way.

A lot different problems here in Washington than down in Oregon.

No worries, Steve. It wasn't more than a minor inconvenience to me, to be honest. Just a little bit of re-routing, really. If you're ever back in the area, you'll have to let me know. Beer and guitars, that's all I can say. ;)

Ice storms are bad news. Afterwards seeing the sun shining through ice-coated tree branches is absolutely beautiful--as long as one of those branches doesn't take out a power line.

Today we started with rain. Temperatures are slowly dropping and it's switching to light snow. Hopefully it's not too slippery later.
