5 stars. Powerful story and acting. No wonder it was nominated for a total of 99 awards from various film and press agencies.

"The story of a young white woman, Eugenia "Skeeter" Phelan, and her relationship with two black maids during Civil Rights era America in the early 1960s. Skeeter is a journalist who decides to write a controversial book from the point of view of the maids (known as the Help), exposing the racism they are faced with as they work for white families."

I take little stock in the Oscars, etc., but IMO The Help was one of the very best films of 2011. Highly recommended. It was particularly poignant for me because I lived in middle-class southern Virginia in the early 60s - it seemed pretty accurate from what I recall.

Just a fabulous movie....loved it. I had some people (who lived in the Deep South) say just how realistic is was for the time period.
