I have made this mistake (not having my gear, not thinking I was going to ski where I might need it) before skiing, and got away with it. But this vid really brings it home.

This guy did not think he was going to need his gear but ran into some buddies and got tempted into different terrain. If you play in the snow, get good equipment, learn to use it, practice, and actually bring it.

Just lost two guys in the Tetons this week. I think they didn't have anyone else to back them up. They found them because of their transponders...a day too late.

I've gone out with some sorry kit. Now 3 of my toes go numb frequently after getting frostbite. Extremely painful and dumb on my part.

I think the very recent slide off to the right should have been an obvious clue about the instability of the slope.

Always keep your eyes open for clues about conditions too.
