Interesting for me at least, to read how an American living in Sweden views things.

Sweden can be eye-opening for any foreigner, but for American Carmen Price, it took more time than she expected in Sweden to disarm her American cultural defense mechanisms.

Interesting and true, a lot of it. The 'it must be true because the state said so' and lack of critical thinking is very true and one of my biggest sources of annoyance, even as a swede.

Hey Robert, one advantage of living here instead of there: I'm 9 hours close to friday than you are :p

I hear they have very, very low tidal movements in Sweden (as the rest of the Baltic Sea).

True?

EDIT: if so, the Vikings must have pee'd in their pants when arriving in Newfoundland where tides are like 12 ft..!

Except the Vikings were REAL men and never peed their pants. :)

C'mon Robert, all of us Americans know Sweden isn't a socialist hell hole. It's Canada that is. ;)

That was pretty interesting to see an "ugly American" grow and learn.
A few highlights: "Americans like to see things in big, essentialist pictures – without fact checking."
and
"I was suffering from a major case of American narcissism. That’s right, my stars and stripes Super-ego was spinning way out of control. I was erecting American cultural defense mechanisms left and right in order to avoid self-introspection and humility."

Yes, they would probably say "Muahahaha! Puny tide! Remember when we sacked Brittany and had 30ft of tide?" :p

Learning the rest of the world doesn't fit nicely into the preconceived notions many Americans have can be a enlightening experience.
