After a brief foray into the punk world, I'm now looking to a different sort of genre to dive into.

Could you help me out and suggest some bands?

After seeing the Classic Albums show about The Band, I've been stuck on that style of music. You know, rootsy, Americana kind of stuff... kind of a mix of blues, rock & roll, and some country in there as well.

Anyone have any ideas?

Plenty.

Check out Kasey Anderson & the Honkies, Lucero, Jason Isbell & The 400 Unit, Justin Townes Earle

That should get you started.

Briefly checked those out... All of them sound great! Justin Townes Earle is probably my favorite out of the ones you mentioned, Lucero coming in next.

Lucero has changed sound a bit over the last two albums, adding horns to add a bit of Memphis soul to their music. I liked them a lot before, I love them now. Seeing them tomorrow night in St. Pete. I thought it was last night but I had the date wrong.

A few I'm enjoying along the roots electric blues side are
Lincoln Durham
Moreland & Arbuckle

More acoustic brings me to
Alison Krauss
Patty Griffin
Gillian Welch

Plus what R_of_G listed.
