With several models being liquidated and discontinued, I was wondering if anyone knows what plans Squier has in 2007?

I'm really drooling over the mahagony HSS for $129, but I just can't afford it with Christmas and all right now. :(

I suspect that even if portions of the Squier product line are discontinued, there's plenty of "new old stock" out there and that these deals (or even better ones!) will be available for some time, Trem....

Don't! I'm having a hard time getting mine to sound decent. Put your money into something else...like a mutual fund.

I love the neck, but mine came with terrible fret sprout so I've had to work on that. I still can't get the action just right and the string tension feels too tight. The bridge pick up sounds awesome but the single coils come off as too brittle. The finish on the other hand is like a teddy bear, soft and smooth, very cuddly and warm.

I read something similar elsewhere a few days ago so I'm happy I decided to hold off on this one. Still a nice deal for the body alone IMHO. Goregous!

I just came across some new entries at the Sam Ash website. No pictures, but new Squier Strat and Tele models for $299.00. Expected in by 2-15-07, bodies are made of Indian Red Cedar... Here's the commentary, all disclaimers apply.

BUILT AND BACKED BY FENDER! The Squier Vintage Modified Tele SH has all the charm and playability of a traditional Tele with the added punch of Duncan Design pickups that include a TE-103 Stack at the bridge and a HB-102 at the neck. The Maple neck has a Maple fingerboard with 21 medium jumbo frets. Additional features include black chrome knurled knobs, reverse control plate, 5-way switch, die-cast tuners, vintage 6-saddle bridge and an Indian Red Cedar body capped with a 3-ply pickguard. Case not included.

Body: Indian Red Cedar
Neck: Maple
Fingerboard: Maple
Frets: 21 Medium Jumbo
Scale: 25.5"
Width @ Nut: 1.650
Hardware: Chrome
Machine Heads: Die-cast
Bridge: Vintage 6-saddle
Pickguard: 3-ply
Pickups: Duncan Design TE-103 Stack at the bridge and a HB-102 at the neck.
Pickup Switching: 3-way
Controls: 1 Volume and 1 Tone
Unique Features: Black chrome knurled knobs and a reverse control plate.

Apparently Squier is expanding / updating and increasing the price on the Vintage Modified series.

Cool! Thanks for the info and pics... That Tele with the mini HB and 2 singles looks way too cool. I want one, NOW. The Vintage Modified Strats look awesome too. Anyone notice the smaller headstock?:R :DR :D

Kinda looks that way... At least the new Teles have maple fretboards. I've got a case of serious GAS for the SSH Tele. I just got a new guitar... this is not good!

What do mini humbuckers sound like?

It sounds like you stuffed a small pickup full of angels... Its somewhere between a single coil and a humbucker, somewhat similar to a P90 pickup but smoother and warmer. It can also bite which you can hear on Johnny Winter songs (Firebird)

Me too! Me too! (new guitar: me too  ). Looks quite a bit like Brent Mason's signature Valley Arts git: here (http://www.gibson.com/Products/GibsonElectric/ValleyArts/Brent%20Mason%20Signature/).

Without some of the bells and whistles, and hefty price tag! But then again, I ain't no Brent Mason :D

Still, if some of that chick'n pick'n mojo were to wear off on me... :DR

Trev

P.S. Here's a clip (http://www.gibson.com/namm2007/Mason.html) of Brent describing the bells and whistles. "If you can fly an airplane, you can play this guitar" :D

That begs the theological question: How many angels fit into the coils of a minihumbucker.

Sounds like I have an assignment to listen to Johnny Winter. Poor me. :D

Nuthin wrong with good ole Johnny. You can consult dr J. Walker while listening.

Musician's Friend has the Vintage Modifieds for $299 - not bad for a new model, but it doesn't look like it'll be a sweet deal like the '51s were (not sure what they were selling for when they came out, seems to me they were around $150 US the first time I saw them). Which begs the question: would you scoop up a Squier or save up a few more bills and grab a Fender Deluxe Nashville or 72 Custom Tele?

I think I'll wait for a few reviews to come in (hopefully from a trustworthy source like someone on theFret.Net :p ). Your thoughts??

ROFLMAO ... angels ... LOL ... I'm not disagreeing, just enjoyed that line. :DR

Anyway, if I remember correctly, Gibson first made the Mini-Humbuckers because they had already made a run of P90 routed Les Pauls, but P90s had recently gone out of favor because of the introduction of Humbuckers. So to help them to sell their current inventory without losing money they "invented" a P90 sized humbucker. I think Minis will fit in pretty much any P90 routed guitar ... could be wrong, but I think I remember reading something like that somewhere ...

Those new Vintage Modified Series models are sweet! I want that Brent Mason style Tele!

This Strat looks mighty sweet too. http://www.squierguitars.com/products/search.php?partno=0301200525

Hope these new models sound like the squeezed in a truckload of angels under the pickguard.

Man... the Squier lineup is SO seductive! I can't wait for these to start showing up at Guitar Center so I can give these models a try. :)

I am very sad to see the '51 go though... what will the next model be for modders to fall in love with?

Hey Todd - nice to see you posting! Post an introduction in the Fret player's section maybe?

The new Squiers look quite interesting. Still a shame there's no '51 anymore :(

How saxy is this thing (http://squierguitars.com/products/search.php?partno=0301240544)? :D I saw one on the Tele Discussion forum where the f-hole was painted (carefully) to look like it was bound - very sweet.
