Didn't I already post this video?

http://www.thefret.net/showthread.php/20754-North-Korean-kids-play-guitar-better-than-North-American-kids?highlight=korea

Same video right?

I don't think it's creepy as the youtube poster calls it. Just hard work and determination! That's what it takes to get somewhere! :)

Sorry Robert - I missed that post... Bumped into it while looking at Hatlee's vid. Well, I know what he means by creepy - how regimented a life most it be to train tiny kids to do that? The hallucinating part is just because it looks so surreal.

Anyway, so much for one-upping you!:)

I am more impressed that horrified to be honest. It is impressive to see such skill as such young age, and they seem to enjoy it too.

There aren't many kids in the western world that have such skills on the guitar at that age. They are too busy watching TV and playing Nintendo DS! haha

I suspect North Korea wants the world to believe that all kids are that skilled in that country... which is not likely of course. They want to showcase the best only.

Seems that most child prodigy's are from Asia?

This kid is cool! Hell Guitar should endorse him! 9 years old.

This reminds me of a story on NPR about Chinese parents forcing 6-year old kids to grueling golf lesson schedules, as it is viewed as a way to gain competitive edge...

I bet they turned out to be good golf players though! haha

I mean I am not advocating grueling military style training of little kids, but I think there is something to be said for appropriate practice discipline and structure and motivation, something it seems like Asian kids do better than we do.

Some interesting facts:

While Asian Americans make up only 4% of the U.S. population, Asian-American students make up a much higher percentage of student bodies in top universities around the country. The percentages are astounding: 24% at Stanford, 18% at Harvard, and 25% at both Columbia and Cornell. More Asian Americans over the age of 25 have bachelor's degrees and advanced degrees than any other race or ethnic group. And after outperforming their colleagues in school, Asian Americans also bring home higher incomes than their non-Asian counterparts - almost $10,000 more annually than the rest of the population (2002 statistics).
