Yeah, I'd pay $4.50 to see Chuck Berry, Muddy Waters and John Lee Hooker on the same bill! Though knowing me, I'd still go for the $3.00 tickets.

Bowie at MSG for $8.50? Pack your bags Fretters, we're all going, my treat.

Cool post Tig. Definitely puts today's ticket prices in perspective.

Very nice.

My Muddy Waters ticket, 11/16/1980 was 6.50, and Wilie Dixon's, 7/16/80 was 6.00, affordable.
Bob Marley and the Wailers (+Eddie Palmieri +Patti Labelle) was 10.00 though.. (and that was a day..!)

It was worth looking as I found my mother hand-written cookies-soaked-in-coffee and custard recipe in that bundle of old stuff. Yum.

The music biz is in a whole different place now, huh? Used to be artists could make money from record sales, but now they have to get it from live performance and merchandise. It kills me to spend $40 for a band shirt. I'd almost rather just send them the money to split among themselves.

I remember seeing Rush and Rory Gallagher together for $9 in 1980 I think. How much is a Rush ticket now?

These days, that $9 will barely get you in to see some local cover band in crappy bar.

Related: Heard from a former lover about a Miles Davis concert she attended: Band opens with two tunes or so, MD gets on stage, wanders around for a bit, plays two notes, and walks out. Done!

Maybe that was worth the six bucks to get in, like a lottery ticket...

It'd be worth ten times that amount just to see a single one of the musicians in any of his bands.

A bargain at half the price!

My Dad saw Miles a few times. He's the only person I know who has. I wish his memory was better, because I know he's been to an untold number of appearances by all kinds of greats. One time when Buddy Rich was just sitting down behind his kit someone yelled out, "Play it good, Buddy!", and he walked off the stage. Done.

I saw David Bowie back in 1978 in Brisbane at Lang Park I am pretty sure it cost $13.00, if I can remember through the mushroom haze:messedup::dance
Below is from a newspaper report, bloody politicians>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>

Brisbane, Lang Park

Bowie, as usual while on tour, caused controversy. A Brisbane newspaper reported:

"David Bowie today (22 November 78) received some noisy feedback from Queensland's minister in charge of noise, Mr Russ Hinze, following the pop star's open-air concert last night. 'These pop singers come out here to make a quick quid by disturbing our peace and tranquillity,' Mr Hinze said. 'The fact that he's a pommie as well wouldn't help.'

Mr Hinze, who is the minister for local government, said the newly-formed Noise Abatement Authority will investigate complaints that last night's Bowie concert at Lang Park, Brisbane, disturbed the peace.

It was reported that the noise was loud enough to be heard 6 km away. Residents of the suburbs of Paddington, Barton and Milton described it as 'intolerable'.

It is estimated that 40,000 kg of equipment will accompany the 31 year-old cult hero, including an intricate system of fluorescent lights. A fleet of seven semi-trailers will be used to transport the equipment around Australia."

Too much for me.

About $150 or so.

I really wanted to see them, but man that's a lot of dough.
