As part of their performance at Solid Sound Festival, Wilco performed a set comprised entirely of fan requests.

Apparently, the band took submissions in advance and learned about 50 of those songs. During the concert, the songs they played were selected at random from that list to be performed live. There was also a "Stump the Band" segment a la the Tonight Show with Johnny Carson which was hosted by comic John Hodgman.

So here's the setlist with original artist noted.

The Boys Are Back in Town (Thin Lizzy)
Cut Your Hair (Pavement)
In the Street (Big Star)
New Madrid (Uncle Tupelo)
Dead Flowers (Rolling Stones)
Simple Twist of Fate (Bob Dylan)
Ripple (Grateful Dead)
Who Loves the Sun (Velvet Underground)
And Your Bird Can Sing - Take 1 (The Beatles)
And Your Bird Can Sing - Take 2
Psychotic Reaction (Count Five)
Tom Courtenay (Yo La Tengo) *with Yo La Tengo
James Alley Blues (Richard "Rabbit" Brown)
Waterloo Sunset (The Kinks) *with Lucius
Waterloo (ABBA) *with Lucius
(What’s So Funny ’bout) Peace, Love and Understanding (Brinsley Schwarz)
Marquee Moon (Television)
Happy Birthday To You (Mildred J. Hill) *Sung to Wilco's Pat Sansone
(Don’t Fear) The Reaper (Blue Öyster Cult)
Cinnamon Girl (Neil Young)
Stump the Band stuff
Get Lucky (Daft Punk)
Surrender (Cheap Trick)
Color Me Impressed (The Replacements) *with Tommy Stinson
Kingpin (Wilco)
Thank You Friends (Big Star)
The Weight (The Band) *with Lucius
Roadrunner (The Modern Lovers) *with Yo La Tengo

Now for the best part. Not only is Wilco cool enough to do a set like this, and talented enough to pull it off, they allow taping of their shows.

There's a very nicely recorded version of the whole thing available for free right here to stream or download via one of the tapers... http://www.nyctaper.com/2013/06/wilco-june-21-2013-solid-sound-festival-flacmp3streaming/

And now back to listening to Nels Cline play "Marquee Moon."

I sure wish I could have headed down to that festival. That would have been so much fun! I look forward to listening to that recorded version!

I'm seeing them here in Tampa on Thursday. This was a fun way to start the week.
