New G&L Tribute Series ASAT Classic Bluesboy Semi-hollow Day! :dance
Got a sweet deal on this brand new, still-in-the-sealed-factory-carton guitar on eBay last week, and it showed up today. The seller had acquired a number of new G&L guitars from the stock of a music store going out of business, and was selling this for 1/3 off the usual street price. I've been looking at the Bluesboy Semi-hollow model for some time, and this is my favorite color of the three versions they offer. Set-up and intonation were right on the money out of the box, and the mid-sized C-profile neck is very comfortable to play. As its name would imply, the guitar is voiced more for blues and classic rock than for a traditional Tele country spank, though it still has plenty of bite on tap with the bridge pickup. I was ready to be underwhelmed by the neck humbucker, but I'm quite impressed with it so far--excellent clarity and a nice full, round tone. Doesn't seem to get muddy too quickly when you dial up the dirt, either. And the guitar sure is nice and light! Gotta put a bunch more time on it before I render a final judgment, but so far, so good!
