It's obvious if you are here, but I see no posts about it and am thinking that perhaps this post might be sent to/checked by a monitor in case the boss hasn't seen it yet. What is the matter with these goons?!

We call these hacker wanna-beez "script kiddies". They are minimally talented at best. Way below professional pay grade.

All is good now. I spent a few hours tracking all the crap down.

Hope no one takes offence to this, but i thought it was quite amusing that the fret got hacked. I take it that he/she didn't do too much damage? Did the hacker tell you how they hacked the website or was it a well known exploit ? As a forum owner myself who got hacked many years ago you soon learn to change the admin password frequently. I would suggest to all fretters that they change their own passwords and never use the same password for other sites.

If you need to keep passwords safe then i suggest using software such as http://passwordsafe.sourceforge.net/

:D

The hacker used a vulnerability in the forum software. I think the person got in via an upgrade or install script that enabled the hacker to add his own message into the database. No damage as far as I can tell.

I didn't laugh too hard at it - I had to spend a few hours on this. I have better things to do!
