I saw Philip Sayce this week in Edmonton, and it was killer! Boy, was he ever loud. Good thing I brought my ear plugs. He played a rented Twin, and he turns it backwards. I had good chat with him afterwards too. Really gracious guy and friendly. He said he thought he'd heard of me! (I'm sure he was thinking of somebody else).
He's got a new album coming out in April.

The record, released overseas last year and set for a bonus-track treated April 7 launch here, showcases his monster skills as a player and a vocalist, and recalls the glory days of the guitar heroes, axeman such as Jeff Beck, Jimi Hendrix, Stevie Ray Vaughan and relatively recent torch-carriers such as Lenny Kravitz, Melissa Etheridge and Jeff Healey.

Again, it was insanely loud.

Awesome musician and awesome opportunity for you to have a chat with real great musician!
Rob, remember years ago when I met Yngwie and he also heard of you before? Your popularity is more widespread than you'd imagine!

Usually Phil plays an old Super Reverb I think. Combined with "Mama" Strat and his early 60s SG he kills.
There's currently a few musicians that really stand out, because they write cool songs, can sing pretty good and of course are awesome players. Among them are JD Simo and Josh Smith, Phil's up there of course, too.

Yeah, I'm not sure I believe these killer players that say they've heard of me! I mean, really? I think they are just being nice, and that's fine with me.. :)

He usually plays Super Reverbs, but he said they couldn't find one for this gig, so a Twin it was. He cranks these suckers really loud, and gets a killer tone with either amp.

He didn't play Mother at all this time. The strat he played this time is a 1963 that he bought from a friend. Interesting story - see this video:

Interesting interview. I like the fact that he doesn't care about any lacquer wear and such, he only concentrates on the sound and on bounding with the instrument. Very cool!
