I think the recent GP listing of 101 Forgotten Greats & Unsung heroes is such a brilliant idea that I am introducing The Fret's infinite thread of little known gitslingers.

Now I love EC, SRV, EVH, Hendrix, Page, etc, etc as much as the rest of you, but it's these passionate, eclectic, inconoclastic for the music types that really get me. Thus, I'd love to dig up videos, music, names, anything abou the 101 listed there as well as players that didn't make that list.

I don't have time now, but I'd like to either find this list online or type it up myself & then start digging through the internets for stuff on these men & women.

For the time being I'll add two to the list.

Dave Alvin & Grant Green.

I'm doing this for a selfish reason. I want to play the the guitar to sound like me, not someone else, & what better way to do this than to hear a thousand different guitars ring?

I've got one - John McCurry (Who??)
He's the guitarist on Alice Cooper's Poison which is one of my favourite riffs of all time :R

I´ve always thought that Joe Satriani played on "poison".. Where can I hear more of this Curry dude?

Nope Satriani played on Hey Stoopid. There's very little info out there on McCurry but he's played on some pretty famous pop/rock songs of the 80's including Belinda Carlisle's Heaven is a place on Earth and Cindy Lauper's Time After Time.

As far as I kow he didn't record any original music but was a pretty hot session player in the 80's & 90's. He actually has a writing credit on Alice Copper's Poison too.

Here's the albums he's played on:

This last one is from the video series "In search of the perfect guitar tone"

from No Island Media. http://www.noisland.net/about.html

I hope that series comes to my PBS station. I wanna see it!

A long time ago I posted about this series. I was thinking of ordering one of the DVDs. It looks like I should have. They are giving anyone who preordered a DVD the entire series for the same cost!
