View Full Version : Help me name my band

The time has come to attach a name to this band. I have a few ideas, but a lot rides on a name, and I'm willing to entertain suggestions.

We're shaping up to be a 90's rock cover band, with some good old party standards and a smattering of classic rock thrown in for good measure. Our target audience is the 25 to 35 year olds. I want to keep the name simple, catchy, and easy to remember.

Suggestions? Be nice and give me some good names to work with, please. :D

By '90s covers, do you suggest a fair amount of grunge sound? I am from the Seattle area, so that sound colored a lot of that period for me. The range of covers would influence my thoughts on a name.

Nah, not grunge..............................STP, Collective Soul, Cracker, Alive...............somewhere along those lines, with some good "shake your money maker" classics.

We're looking at being at being a "good time party band", not some serious "listen to our serious message, I hate life, kill yourself while you have the chance" band.

We're looking at keeping the crowd fired up and happy.

We're "Alpha Dogs".

Spanky and the Fart Knockers ? .. ;)

January 14th, 2007, 04:14 PM
Ok. That helps. I'll give it some thought. The first thing that came to mind was something like "hole in my head" as in "the world needs another folk singer like . . ." I put STP on the edge of grunge, kind of like the Peppers and Alice in Chains. But I get what you're saying. I'll see if I can do better than that. Without reference to Cracker, that name does not say anything related to what you are doing.

EDIT: Oops. didn't see you had decided. Ok, pressure is off now.

No biggie. It was fun thinking about it for a minute. But, because of my car, I think your should spell your band name "Alfa Dog." :)

Why? It has a great history, what with the old Alpha Dogs leaving.

How about something that is one word and captures rock n roll in it's most true form (I had to write that stuff to make the minimum character requirement)
What I want to say is "BRIMSTONE"

SixStringJoe
January 15th, 2007, 12:14 AM

LOL!

I have a bunch of ideas to bring to the table. It's going to be a long band meeting. :D

As soon as we settle on a name, I'm going to put up a website.

Maybe "The Planks" or "The Spanks", although the latter may draw an odd crowd.

I saw a sign in Toronto announcing "Tonite: FREE BEER"

Turns out FREE BEER was the band :(

Got any band pics? Point being, if we get an idea of what the band looks like it might make the band name easier to come by.

"Ex-Sea" is my suggestion from the roman numerals XC which represent 90.

Plank_Spanker

I think that I have the list pared down to about a dozen candidates to bring to the table. I'll announce the winner as soon as the round table convenes.

Thanks for the ideas, folks! :D

I dunno. That seems like one of those oxymoron's. Sort of like jumbo shrimp or Army intelligence.

There is no logic in radio. The name rolls of the tongue just fine, but think about what you are implying. (no offense intended)

Rolls off the tongue and easy to remember is what we were shooting for - no message or agenda intended. :D

Uh-Oh! Hope Spanky sees that one, Mark!:D
Guess they could go with RadioLogicII, or maybe RadioMagic, which can be an actual feeling if you're 17 and the right song comes on while you're parked with your girl after the big dance...
It's tough naming a band.. E.G. "Alpha Dog"...new movie.

How about "FretNetNutzoids"?
Nah, that's no good...besides, you'd have to ask Robert....hey!

RENMANS REJECTS Nah..phony advertising. Everybody gets a big welcome I think you'll like it here

"It came from Planet X" ? "Gamma Ray 5"?

Plank_Spanker
January 18th, 2007, 07:24 AM
Yeah, I googled the name late last night. We'll see if the guys want to keep it.

Besides, they're a punk band.................................how long can they last? :D

oldguy
January 18th, 2007, 07:57 AM
I dunno, Plank, with a name that cool.....years on end, maybe milleniums!:D :D

t_ross33
January 18th, 2007, 12:51 PM
Shouldn't be an issue having two bands with the same name, as long as one isn't infringing on the others rep or opportunity to make $$$, booking in the same area etc. Yer on opposite sides of the continent.

Just for fun, you should google Mid-Life Crisis Band and see how many pop up! :D And we thought we were soooooo clever :DR

Trev

Edit: Just checked out the website. These doodz will never get out of Cowtown ;)

We're back on the hunt. As much as I like it, I'm not going to cop "Radio Logic". I don't want any confusion over websites and the such.

I prefer :D

The Postmodern Antediluvian Bivalves

or

Billy-Bo and the Postmodern Antediluvian Bivalves.

Although, one would get the nickname

"The Bivalves"

which seems vaguely to have possibly unintended connotations.
