This is what happens when some good ol' Missouri boys with Telecasters, P-Basses,... shoot fire... even an old Peavey T-60, gol-dangit, start listening to Crazy Horse and then writing their own songs. EEEEee-HAwww!!!:D :R
I kinda like "Alone in Bad Company".

I like these guys, too. Two of their mid-90's releases see heavy rotation in my regular listening loop:

Brooklyn Side:

and

24 Hours A Day:

Alt. country would be kind of a broad way to describe The Rockets' sound, but I would certainly agree with oldguy's assessment that there's a lot of Crazy Horse-era Neil Young bubbling under the crust. There are a lot of cool artists / bands that kind of float around together in this particular genre, including the Jayhawks, Son Volt, Todd Snider, David Zollo, and Uncle Tupelo - just to name a few.

If you like songs that use piano, harp, acoustic guitar, mandolin, and the occasional hot-rodded Fender, all of these bands offer some great angles for both playing and listening.

Thanks Glenn! I like that tone. You know I like Crazy Horse tones, and I hear Westerberg in there too. Esp. on the Mountain to Climb piece. The vocal on Alone in Bad Company immediately brought to mind John Hiatt.

EDIT: Add Black Crowes to Nelskie's list.
