One of the great songwriters of our time. She is being inducted into the Canadian Songwriters Hall of Fame tonight.

She also does some fabulous guitar playing with her unusual tunings.

You may be familiar with songs like "Big Yellow Taxi" and "A Case of You". An album of hers that I particularly love is "Hejira", with Jaco Pastorius on bass. Fabulous stuff. She has the kind of depth in her lyrics and music that you seldom see these days.

Read an article regarding her and this event tonight - http://www.thestar.com/artsentertainment/article/175735

Many people just don't realize how good this lady really is. It is for a reason that quite a few accomplished artists like Prince, Zeppelin, Sheryl Crow, Tori Amos, Diana Krall, Ani Difranco and Janet Jackson, just to name a few, list her as a big influence.

Yea! Another Canuck, and a Prairie Girl at that. Saskatchewan born and raised! Props to my peeps!! (oops, edit that: Alberta born, but it pretty much amounts to the same thing :D ).

Hejira is a favorite of mine too. Jaco also plays on "Mingus". She's cool. A very accomplished painter as well. Some of her paintings are on display at the Mendel Art Gallery in Saskatoon.

I wish I had a river
I could skate away on

Yea! Congratulations Joni.

Roine Stolt (another great Swede) has been greatly influenced by her as well. He did an amazing cover of her "Sex Kills" on his "Wall Street Voodoo" album.
