Hey folks,

I guess everyone in here knows Stevie Ray's No. 1.
I love it when a player has such a deep relation to his instrument and you can feel the magic between them - just think of B.B. King.

What is your Number One and what's the story behind it?

Mine is my Jimmie Vaughan Strat. I bought it after I turned into a long phase of discovering the blues. I played this guitar very intensively for 6-7 years in a row without touching another guitar, it has severe scars from several gigs and looks very relic, it is the one that opened new doors to my playing, the one that always sounds right. Of course I play my Paula and my 62 custom Strat and like them very much, but the magical bond only exists with the Jimmie V. Strat. I have modified it to my personal likenings and no other guitar no matter how expensive could beat this one.

To put it in a nutshell:
This guitar has a history - my musical history that took place durig the most important steps and metamprphosis I musically underwent.

My number one is also my Jimmie Vaughan Strat. I got it in '05 after reading so many great reviews of it from the Fender Forum. I prefer it to my other Strat which is a '97 AmStd Lone Star. What I love about it is how it plays and feels... absolutely love the soft V neck.

I made a few changes from stock. First I decked the bridge and replaced the strings with D'Addario 10s. Next to go was the "warped" one-ply pickguard which I changed for a 3-ply parchment. Finally, I changed all the plastic to aged creme.

This is the one they bury in the box with me :)

My Gibson Les Paul Studio has got to be my #1. But I do play my Strat and Tele and love them too.

My very first electric when I was 12, Japanese El Degas LP. Still have it, fits like a glove.

Tough call. Guess I'd have to give that honor to my '89 Strat Plus, 'cuz my first electric guitar was a Strat and they hold a special place in my heart. And with the guitar's built-in mojo and the mods I've done, she really gets the job done.

I have to admit that I also really love the relatively inexpensive used Epi Dot I bought on eBay last March, too. Again, I've made a bunch of mods, but there's something about that guitar that just feels and plays right for me.

Well you guys know my one and only electric. My 60th std. strat in my avatar. Similar in some ways to the JV. This newbie tried a bunch of guitars in different stores, and kept coming back to the MIM 60th. It just feels right. Also have a soft place in my heart for my good old acoustic too. But that is more sentiment. I can think of nicer acoustics to own.

My number one, since I bought it, has been my Reverend Warhawk HB. It's just an incredibly versatile and great-sounding axe, and plays so nicely! Looks hot to boot. It feels like a natural extension of my playing...Honestly, I play better with this guitar than with any of the others!

Ahem, in your Avatar I see a maple neck guitar. Fender did build maple necks only in the 50th. In the 60th until 1968 there was only rosewood available and when Fender started to buil Maple again they build guitars with the big pre CBS headstock. So I guess your guitar is a 50th....unless it has the big headstock.

Rock on and thanks for sharing!
Sorry for me being so direct....

Jimi: Here is a link to my guitar, the FenderĀ® 60th Anniversary Commemorative Standard StratocasterĀ© Electric. http://www.musiciansfriend.com/product/Fender-60th-Anniversary-Commemorative-Standard-Stratocaster-Electric-Guitar?sku=517894

I was not clear in my description that I meant 60th anniversary, not a 1960s guitar. No need to apologize for being direct. I like direct. :)

mine is this 2003 Fender "Vintage Players Strat", supposedly one of 250 made. They were gold or some kind of blue. I bought it in 2005. There were two identical ones sitting up on the wall, unsold since 2003. In a shop with black shredder guitars and Krank amps.
I played both of them over the course of 3 days and picked mine. They definitely felt different from one another.

started out as this:

Bridge pickups- OY !

For me the final answer has been SD Hotrails. but I have an EQ in my Fx loop and I've discarded my OD pedals. All Amp OD now.

The progression for me went:

Texas Special (stock)
JB Jr.
SD Custom Custom full size
LIL 59
SD Screamin Demon fullsize
SD Hotrails

and several swaps back and forth, indecision for that last couple years.

finally now back to Hotrails (THICK)

I really don't have a "Number One" now that I think about it. I guess that I have four "Number Ones" that see equal playing time - the Standard LP, the SG, and a couple of Strats. It all depends on the terrain I'm covering at the time.

venusian as in from the planet venus

or

venusian as in a venusian body type (which is considered full-bodied, and sensual)

Maybe both...

Venusian as in Venus the goddess of love. All those pink folds are rather...uummm...you know.
