For those of you that have a VOX Valvetronix product (Tonelab, AD**VT(X)) how do you set the Master Volume (called VR gain on Tonelabs).

Crank it? 12:00? 3:00? Do you change this depending on the tone you want (clean vs dirty).

I used to be a cranker, but now I tend to back things off a bit, but I always have it somewhere between 12:00 & cranked. I'm experimenting & would like your opinions.

I used to crank it all of the time, but that pretty much kept me from ever playing clean. I usually keep it between 1-2 o'clock.

I set it at 2-3 o'clock mostly.

It depends on how clean of a sound I need.

Some folks swear by setting it to 3 o'clock and leaving it there, and using the regular volume knob and the attenuator knob on the back to set the final volume. I run it anywhere from 12 to 3 o'clock, depending on what I'm playing....

I usually have my VR gain set at max and let the channel volume work as a master volume.

Right now I'm running mine at around 12:00 on my AD60VTH. That seems to be the "sweet spot" for my ears.

Thanks for the input everyone. I'm still experimenting. Between 12 & maxed right now, but usually closer to maxed.

I think that it depends on the amp model that I'm using and the kind of tone that I'm going after. For really clean stuff I usually set it about 12 o'clock. For certain amp models it works better to crank this up pretty far such as the Marshall Plexi model and Fender Bassman model. I think that a setting of about 3 o'clock is a good compromise.
