I love YouTube! Browsing around last night and caught a clip of Steve Earle, Gillian Welch and David Rawlings covering the Flying Burrito Bros. "Sin City". Very cool. So that got me interested in seeing more of Gillian, she of "O Brother Where Art Thou" soundtrack fame.

A quick search reveals that she almost always plays with David Rawlings at her side, and he usually plays a 1935 Epiphone Olympic archtop (so says Wikipedia - don't ya jest luv the 'net?).

Very interesting acoustic tone. Cool bluegrassy/jazzy guitar stylings, very similar to, dare I say, Willie Nelson!?! Everything is close mic'd - no p'ups, pre-amps or DI's. Also very cool, minimalist and yet so true to the songs.

I'll be adding Gillian (and David) to my long list of favorite artists. Much better than the current flavor-of-the-day so-called "country" artists on the charts these days. I encourage you to check it out!
