Dude, that song was really popular at parties my first year in college, 81-82. I remember a bunch of others too, like Men at Work, Flock of Seagulls, Tubes, etc. My room mate cranked this band at all times it seemed til I burned out on em. Because I considered myself kind of an adult back then (Hah!) lots of times I think it couldn't have been that long ago. Then I look at videos like this. Did you see these guys on that show a couple summers ago (Hit me Baby One More Time) where they brought back old bands to perform one new song (current popular cover) and one of their old? These guys looked old, but I thought their new piece was not bad.

It's "Turn Me Loose" my Loverboy. Assuming it came out in the summer of 1980, I was entering 7th grade. For some reason, I would have placed it more toward 1982. Oh well.

That is when loverboy was popular at the fraternity parties I was attending at the time. Also REALLY popular at that time, at least with my room mate, was "Workin for the Weekend" and "The Kid is Hot tonight" Don't know if those are the right titles, but you get the idea.

I am the worst old guy here because I saw them in concert!! Red leather pants were cool at the time and bandanas with Japanese flags on them. I hope I wasn't the only guy who wore parachute pants that had zippers all over!! Remember buying clothes from a store called Chess King?? The place looked like a dressing room for Duran Duran. I bought lots of clothes there I am sad to report.

Completely agreed on the above. Flock, Missing Persons, etc. were interesting for a minute because I had seen nothing like them, but the interest did not last. Some others from MTV like the Romantics, Men at Work, Talking Heads (not really from MTV), etc. I still like.

LOL @ Parachute pants! Back in the day, All the break dancers wore them because of the nylons slipperyness when they did spins

Heres whats suprising, they still make them. I guess its for all those closet B-Boys

I used to be in love with Dale Bozzio - she was teh hotnezz!!! plus she wasnt afraid to show off her hot bod.

I just found out like last year that Missing Persons was made up of 3 former Zappa band members

Terry Bozzio, Warren Cucarullo, Patrick O'Hearn

Not to change the subject...but I just got another axe and it rocks!! It's an Ibanez BL850 Balzer reissue from 1997. I scored it mint for 200 bucks and I couldn't be happier. The neck is super fast and the humbuckers do Jazz to metal. If you find one...buy it. I may start a small collection of these so let me know if you see any more of them. Primarly a BL1025 in Caymen Green!!

It's funny reading through this thread and all the bands mentioned because 1) I remember most of them from when I was in grade school, and 2) my wife has all of the albums and still listens primarily to that type of music.

The best part of #2: she's 25 years old, guys (I'm pacing her by 9 years). See? You can still be hip with some of the ladies out there and aren't as old as you think you are. ;)

..though I should talk. I've been freaking out ever since I hit 30, 4 years ago.

I liked all of the above. I can remember cleaning up the dining room after lunch singing about vegamite sandwiches. The one album I always wanted and never owned. Have to go and correct that. Did you guys notice when the music was featured on "Scrubs" and the lead singer (Colin Hay) did cameos?

That was the only time I ever watched that show. I was channel surfing and Colin was singing on the stretcher so I let him finish. :)

Then I am in good company because I wore those pants while out on the road covering Turn Me Loose, The Kid Is Hot Tonight, Workin For The Weekend, Lovin Every Minute Of It.

I also stood right in front of Mike Reno for a whole concert and he even sang Passion Pit right to my face while I'm getting cozy with my girlfriend. Priceless!

Heck yeah! We're working on "My Mistake" at the moment. I'll throw another one out there for all us Canucks: Teenage Head! (http://www.teenagehead.ca/) Maybe more punkabilly than rockabilly, but we sure partied harty to their tunes :DR

Funny, I just got done watching Oaisis butcher that one, and then had to go back and watch Slades version...but Quiet Riot did it the best in my opinion.

And the other 2 songs...loved them as a kid, but recently the use of the Madness song for coffee commercials has made the song almost unlistenable to me anymore. And Ive heard Come on Eilene waaaaaay to many times...but its got to be the funniest song title ever.

I was never a Kinks fan...I just never got them, but always kinda dug Come Dancing (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Bz0rn-Wg8hM)(sorry bout the video)...that song remonds me of the same time period.

I like all of those, and this:

along with the Knack, TommyTutone, I could go on.

EDIT: Had to add this link for my old favorites "The Romantics"
http://www.romanticsdetroit.com/audio-video/video-1.html
Couldn't find any full length clips, but this site has some fun clips and fun stuff and my favorite VJ Martha starting an interview (click MTV lower right for Martha):

Trev, great you are working on that song. I just tracked down the double cd and ordered it. I have not heard of that other band but will check them out. Punkabilly sounds right up my alley. My favorite punkish stuff is mostly old school rock, surf based, Ramones, old Elvis Costello, some of the Clash, etc. I am having fun with this thread!
