Yes he's really good at it.

Not enough banjo in this world, I say.

they make it seem so effortless...I tried one once and love the sound they produce but couldn't get myself into it....but I'm getting better at the harmonica:)

Wow! What a line-up. I think I remember when this aired, but I was on a musical hiatus, so I didn't pay much attention at the time. But holy smokes!

I picked out the obvious ones (Albert Lee, Vince Gill, Marty Stuart), but couldn't get them all. I scrolled through the comments and found this:

The show aired on November 15, 2001. The lineup that night: Earl (banjo); Steve Martin (banjo); Glenn Duncan (journeyman N'ville fiddler); Marty Stuart (mandolin); Vince Gill (electric guitar); Randy Scruggs (acoustic guitar); Albert Lee ([NOT Alvin Lee, yee GAWDS] electric guitar); Gary Scruggs (harmonica); Jerry Douglas (dobro); Paul Shaffer (piano); Will Lee (bass, Letterman's band); Harry Stinson (house drummer for Dead Reckoning records)

:DR Steve musta felt like he'd died and done gone to hillbilly heaven :R
