Hi Guys,
I just heard Bo Diddley had a stroke after a performance last night, and it left him in very bad shape. Here's hoping he makes a miraculous recovery. I was lucky enough to see him perform about 20 years ago, needless to say it was a fantastic show . As Billy Gibbons has said,"Bo Diddley's guitar is square, his music is not."

Here's the news story from the Canadian Press:

Bo Diddley is in intensive care after suffering a stroke in western Iowa, a publicist said Wednesday.

The 78-year-old singer-songwriter-guitarist and Rock and Roll Hall of Famer was listed in guarded condition at Creighton University Medical Center in Omaha, Neb., said Susan Clary, a publicist for the musician's management team.

Diddley, who has a history of hypertension and diabetes, was taken to hospital Sunday following a concert in Council Bluffs in which he acted disoriented, she said.

Tests indicated the stroke affected the left side of his brain, impairing his speech and speech recognition, Clary said.

Clary said she has no other details on Diddley's condition or how long he would be in intensive care.

Diddley, with his black glasses and low-slung guitar, has been an icon in the music industry since he topped the R&B charts with "Bo Diddley" in 1955. His other hits include "Who Do You Love," "Before You Accuse Me," "Mona" and "I'm a Man."

Diddley was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 1987 and was given a lifetime achievement Grammy in 1998.

I just heard about this. I hope he makes it ok. He used to live around here sometime back and was even made an honorary deputy once. I never ran into him while he lived here but always hoped I would! Make it out ok Bo!

That must've been awhile back! He's lived on the outskirts of Alachua, Florida (near where I am in Gainesville) for quite a few years.

I had the good fortune to play bass for him last summer at a local benefit concert. I was trying to be on my best behavior that night (thus not as "rockin" as I am with my own bands) so as not to be accused of upstaging him.

But given his current state I'll post some as a way of us all sending him some mojo.

This is from soundcheck, one of his "nieces" was sitting behind the drums:
