From the Gilmour site:

We told you back in November (http://davidgilmour.musicblog.co.uk/2006/11/custom_dg_strat.html) that there were plans by Fender to produce a custom model of David's black Stratocaster, which is the one he has been playing most of all throughout the 'On An Island' tour.
Well, if you were one of the many excited guitar enthusiasts who didn't quite relish waiting until July 2008 to get your hands on one, then we have some very good news.
It will be out this year, to coincide with the release of David's 'Remember That Night' DVD.
The provisional price tag is said to be around $4,000 in the US and £2,000 in the UK.
Please note that it is a signature model, not a tribute model. Therefore it is not a 'perfect' replica of David's, but it does have the same wood, pickups, neck, fixtures, etc.
More details to follow in the next week or two, so please don't ask. We can't add anything to the above at this time, unfortunately.
Indeed, these are all provisional details, hot off the press and subject to change. We just wanted to give you an update on how plans are progressing.

Read it here: http://davidgilmour.musicblog.co.uk/2007/06/

I would assume these will sell around $2000.00 when they hit the online outlets..
ummm..anyone got a few grand I can borrow?

I don't think actually that this specific signature guitar will be much different than a typical 57ri but with a black pickguard and maybe a short tremolo arm...

Although I am A BIG BIG fan of Gilmour, I am not convinced that this guitar will worth it's money...

I've have made a Gilmour-based partscater, that costed approximately 700€ and I think it worths every cent that I've paid for it:

Well there is news folks and pictures.

http://www.davidgilmour.com/

and over on the blog - http://blog.davidgilmour.com/

2 versions: (from this link) (http://www.davidgilmour.com/news_photos/blackstratfans.htm)

There are two models:
• The 'Relic', which replicates the 'Black Strat' as it is today with aged parts and worn paint, plus all the wear and tear of David's heavily-used 30-year-old guitar – with no backplate.
• The 'New Old Stock' model, which replicates the 'Black Strat' as it is now – but with all-new parts, 'new' paint finish and an additional white plastic backplate. The NOS model should be found at a lower retail price than the 'Relic'.

I'll do Strum one better.

I'm knocking it.

I'd much rather have a great quirky-brand guitar that is all about those who are gonna play it & not about some famous wanker be it EC, SRV, Hendrix, Gilmour, John Mayer, EJ, Jeff Beck yada, yada, yada.

They can have their guitars. I want mine.

Gorgeous guitar.

I can't see shelling out insane money on a Strat. I can build my own. I actually did kinda make my old Lonestar gilmourish...just has a humbucker :)

As cool as I think some of this is the fact is these are for collecting, not playing. These sigs aren't for the average Joe.

Gorgeous guitar.

I've seen better.

If you're hot for black, then I understand, or if Gilmour=God in your ontology, but fer me I've seen more GAS-inducing gitfiddles.

But then I'm not at all interested in sounding like anyone in particular.

I don't think so - Fender has made 3 different Clapton guitars - a very expensive collector's item, a Custom Shop version, and a "normal" model. One for each type of buyer. This appears to be similar, but without the collectors version. Gilmour has said in the past on his site, that he didn't want a collectors version, he wanted a guitar players could afford to buy.

Quoting the David Gilmour site:

• Maple neck – as close as possible to the original ('83 57V with Gotoh tuners), in shape, colour and feel, with a nitro-cellulose finish.
• Alder body with the same late 60's contours as the original.
• All the pickups were selected by David to match the sound of the 'Black Strat' closely, and are custom-wound: neck and middle pickups by Fender's legendary Abigail Ybarra, and the bridge pickup by Seymour Duncan.
• The same extra mini-switch has been added, which adds the neck pickup to the middle or bridge pickup if desired.
• The tremolo arm has been shortened, as per David's modification.

There are two models:

• The 'Relic', which replicates the 'Black Strat' as it is today with aged parts and worn paint, plus all the wear and tear of David's heavily-used 30-year-old guitar – with no backplate.

Until Fender informs us of the price, one just has to wait. If you don't want one, nobody is going to force you to buy, but there are lots of folks out there who will gladly buy one.

OK, that is a legitimate way to leverage your name; get a true player's guitar built at a reasonable price with specs that you've found useful.

I still think that it behooves the creative person to play something *other* than Gilmour tunes on such an axe.

That is always up to the player of a guitar, or whatever musical instrument one plays. If one wants to just play Gilmour tunes - I'm not going to stop them. I love Grateful Dead music - but I haven't just tried to learn their music - I like lots of different types and styles.

Different strokes ...

Also in my OPINION Custom shop U.S.A. are generally put together with more care/detail/fit/finish most times.

Of course there are exceptions:thwap:

Tot I am just going to play Floyd tunes on mine:rotflmao::beer: ;)

I'm down with you. Anyone can do what they want. It's their money & their musical desires.

Actually I was thinking about Jerry's guitars. Even though I love the Dead & their music, I have no desire to have a Wolf or aTiger or a...or even to play their music.

I still think that it is a good idea to get some distance between one's heros & one's music.
