Then you might want to check out THIS GUITAR (http://www.rondomusic.net/product1186.html) at Rondo Music. I was surprised to see it listed there, given their concentration on inexpensive Chinese & Korean clones. But that price is 20% lower than what it sells for at all the big name music stores. Still not cheap, but if you've been leching for a 335, this may be about as good a deal as you're likely to find on a new one....

I have to throw in the Hagstrom Viking in the discussion here. I played it at last week's gig, and I was quite impressed. Very nice guitar! Quite reasonably priced, as well, around $470.

Without a doubt, there are several much more cost-effective semi-hollowbody alternatives to a Gibson ES-335. For example, I'm still very satisfied with the Epi Dot I picked up on eBay for $300.

My point here was merely to alert those who might have their hearts set on "the real thing" to the fact that they could save themselves $400 by buying this particular 335 model through Rondo....

That is surprising to see at Rondo.

Seeing that Hagstrom makes me wish I still had my old 1974 Swede...man I loved that guitar. Why did I ever sell it?

I'm still happy with my cheapie Ibanez AS73 too. After a complete electronics/pickup swap, some Gotoh tuners, and a bone nut, it's a surprisingly nice guitar. It's well made, looks good, and gets wonderful ES-335-like tones. I can't complain.

Ahh, you should have kept that baby, Blooz! I hear old Hagstroms are quite valuable now.

I like the look of that Gibson, and really like the looks of those Hagstroms. I love the offset tail piece and head stock. Glad to hear you think they play well Robert.

Nice one Abraxas.. I found a pic of you and your new Viking!

Does the new Vikings have the H-expander truss rod? That was one of the best things with the older Hagstroms.

Hello SuperSwede

I'm more handsome than this guy, who is he anyway. :p

It is strange but I have played with two old Hagstroms just like that one (while I was visiting friends in Denmark). The new Viking is a different animal. Yes, it's got the H-rod, the neck is slim (but the old one's was slimmer) and the shape is aproximately the same. Apart from these, it's rather different.

First impressions are exciting: I have only good words to say about the build quality and the playability. Hagstroms are perhaps king of the "value for money" thing right now.
