Has anyone had much luck with meeting musicians through online sites? Craigslist or others. Met a few but nothing ever clicked for me. Maybe it's me. :p

I hooked up with a band for a short while using a Jersey specific web site. I currently am looking on Craigslist and TheMode right now to find another outfit.

We just picked up a new second guitar player through craigslist. We had 5 replies to the ad on the first day.

Open Jams are a great networking tool also. Thats how we met our Frontman AND got several gigs. Everything from Coffee house stuff to rock/blues open jams/mics are awesome ways to meet new musicians.

I need to look into whether there might be an opportunity for one of those around here. Lots of players of various abilities here, but I have not seen a regular open jam. I can think of one place that might be willing to host one during summer months. Winter gets harder.

You guys just come on over here to Camrose, Alberta, and we'll jam all weekend, ok?

Sounds awesome. We could find a good trail run too. It would be an active rest day for you though.

Hooked up with a guy through CL. We are going to get together soon, see what happens. Robert, I'm in for the jam but will hold down the fort while you go on the trail run.

I remember Professional Musicians Referral http://www.pmr-musicians.com/ from 25 years ago and they are still around.

Still, I put together a very good band that traveled around the Rocky Mountain region from guys that I met at Open Mic Night. We eventually had around 100 minutes of original music and were playing it consistently.

First meeting went pretty good. Four of us got together and played through a couple of originals. Didn't sound too bad either. Practice on Monday nights.

Are these guys that you met through Craigs List? And now you are already committing to rehearsals? Cool, but shouldn't you do a second date before you buy the ring?:D

+ 1 ..... I agree with spud here....Playing with other musicians is like making love in a way *don't get dumb people....just listen* cause you start out just feeling each other out, getting to know these people you delve further into each other musically AND emotionally cause all that jazz is interconnected. You have to be able to be open, passionate, and able to be a critic to these people also... its like a marriage so the saying fits for this too...and don't take it personally *fools rush in*. It took us 3 years to find the right Frontman for us. We met guys and gals who had great talents that didn't work out...."its not you its me"...see the connections yet. There is so much more to finding musicians for orig. music too...covers not soo much but its still there. Consider Cover music like being single and dating many people...and orig. music as settling down. Its like a baby and a relationship. You don't have as much invested in cover but learning the tunes. With YOUR music its bad when someone kicks it around...or bands break up cause you have sooo much more invested in it. If your serious with these folks take the time and hang out with these cats (grab a bite to eat or hit the bar/club....hell even go to a movie) find out the "W"s about them...so you can tell when their mad/sad/glad/feelin bad!

Sorry....just don't want to see anyone on this forum get hurt or used - now its the only forum I frequent cause most of the others are filled with :reallymad: or:crazyguy: with no accountability cause to them "its just the internet".....

And please keep us updated cause we all love original music!

I see your point. The originals we played are the bass players. Him and the drummer have been playing together. The drummer knew the other guitar player and pulled him in. I'm the only stranger I guess. Everyone seemed open to changes we brought to the songs. It might help that all of us are at least 35. It might not. I'm pretty easy to get along with and if it goes bad, it goes bad. Haven't pulled out any of my stuff yet. (Not that there is a whole lot anyway). Thanks for the advice and I'll play it by ear and see how it goes.

I've been wanting to hook up with other musicians for a long time and tried several local websites, but got absolutely nowhere. The "musicians" I was hooking up with spent more time on the websites than they did playing guitar/bass.

I started taking lessons again just to get the chance to play guitar with another guitarist. He's about my age, and already is mentioning about starting a band, so I'm keeping my fingers crossed on that.
