when i got the email from radiohead yesterday [that was how they notified people the album was being released] i nearly cried. i've been waiting a very long time for their seventh album. the means they are using to promote and sell the album intrigue me as well. earlier this year, radiohead frontman thom yorke released his first solo album ["the eraser"] via the same method, and from what i understand, they sold PLENTY of copies, so i imagine this album will fare well too. i have been watching their situation since they completed their distribution deal with EMI to see how things would be handled for future releases, and it is nice to see that a band that experiments as much in the studio and onstage as they do has taken that approach to marketing their music as well. all i know is october 10th i will have new radiohead to listen to for the first time in a long time, and that is a VERY inspiring piece of news. as far as existing bands go, they are at the top of the list for me.
