View Full Version : My Strat (post your own here, if you wish)

This is my favorite Strat. It’s all stock: TexMex pups, and a Diamondback humbucker on the bridge. It’s alder body and it’s a bit heavier than my other Strat (never actually weight it), but I still love it.

Thought I’d share this with you, if nothing else, Halloween is coming up and my guitar’s looking very trendy.:rotflmao: :D

If you wish, post pics of your favorite Strat here.
Cheers:beer:

Well, I've posted her here several times, as the old-timers know. But since we have a bunch of new folks that floated in from the Washburn washout ( ;) ), I'll use that as a convenient excuse to tack her up again. '89 Strat Plus modified with CS Texas Special p'ups, a black Moto PG, and black trim. A little fancy wiring, too. Bad to the bone:

P.S. Mr. Mudcat-- NICE STRAT COLLECTION!!! :eek: :AOK:

Very comparable in features and components to a 90's MIM Fender, but with an extra, 22nd, fret, and slightly bigger frets (both plusses in my book).

For $100 US I sure ain't complainin. ;)

'81 Fender STRAT. Made for 3 years in the 'dark years' of questionable Fender quality as a radically upgraded model. It cost me $675 brand new back then, which was more than I paid for a new Gibson LP Custom Black Beauty (sold long, long ago for a song :( )but weighed as much at 9 1/2 lbs. of solid ash coated with layers of candy apple red over gold. Gold-plated brass bridge & saddles. Medium Jumbo frets. What's normally the neck pup tone pot is a master tone, with a 2-position switch in place of Middle pup tone pot adds 4 series pup combos to the 5-way's parallel combos, including all 3 at once. Not mods, but stock; all I did was shield the pg & cavity.
http://i17.photobucket.com/albums/b81/wingsdad/TheFretNet%20Pix/FretNet%20Electrics/TheStrat.jpg
To show some detail, these shots aren't of mine, but they may as well be. Like mine, it doesn't have gold pg screws or tuners, indicative of the level of Fender's commitment to detail in those days.

'07 Fender American Vintage '62 Reissue in Ice Blue Metallic. A shade over 6 lbs. of alder. Came with a 5-way switch as an option, but I like it with the 3-way just fine. Besides the light weight, its ultra-thin & narrow neck compared to the STRAT with thin frets and the rosewood board are quite a change of pace for me.

m'cat-
I just got lucky on the '62RI. Some rich kid got it as a gift from his folks and hated it. So he 'dumped' it, absolutley pristine, not even pick swirls on the pg, with all its hangtags & other doo-dads (ashtray bridge cover, the switch kit, xtra trem springs, 'vintage strap', but he kept the Meguiars cleaning kit) at my favorite local store to trade for a BC Rich thing and a balls-on-fire rectumifryer amp. I traded my '99 Gibson BluesHawk and 'few' bucks cash to jump on it. Basically, about $500 bucks less than Guitar Center/Musician's Fiend's price. All I didn't get is the lifetime warranty from Fender. Big whoop.

As for The STRAT...they made very, very few of these from about 80-82. They seldom turn up on E-bay. Besides the Candy Apple Red, it came in Lake Placid Blue, and a really sweet all Walnut model, and a rosewood board was the other option. It's got the 'skunk stripe' neck, too. The most distinctive thing about it was/is the ungodly Les Paul weight class. That mass and the series pup combos make it a whole different animal. Eventually, Leo Fender started G&L with George Fullerton and came up with the S-500, with a similar type of switching, as an alternate to the Legacy, their homage to the Strat they left behind when he sold to CBS; that tells you that even crusty 'ol Leo liked that idea. Still, it was my main gig axe back then, and the only 6-string I hung on from a pretty deep arsenal.

Yea ive seen some of the ugly sorta hair metal type models that had just strat written cursive in hot pink on black and also of course a few other different combos with just strat written on the headstock and floyds of course. Ive never in all my years seen one like the red one you have. If you ever get a chance to take some pics of yours id love to add to my strat guitar porn collection:messedup:

Cool Strats all around! Easy guitar to love, huh?

Below are some pics of my Strat-O-Killer. Sort of my home built version of a Strat Plus with some differences.

The specs are:

* '02 Fender USA Deluxe Strat body - butterscotch blonde finish, micro-tilt neck adjuster
* Warmoth Strat replacement neck - maple/maple, 10"-16" compound radius, jumbo frets, truss rod quick adjuster on the side
* Schaller locking tuners
* LSR roller nut
* Fender American 2 point tremolo
* Lace Sensor Hot Gold pickups - 6k, 6k, 13.2k

Here's a really short video clip - just to give an idea of the sound.

With that nice strat-herd of yours, that's sayin' somethin', cat. :) That top pic in the white stand is mine, just the 2 close-ups I copped off a vintage store's site that had one for sale back in april. That one appears in practically mint condition. Mine, if I can take some decent pics, will reveal :eek: a number of dings & chips, some epoxy repair to the fingerboard, and wer & tear on the bridge & saddles. So I don't know if those make for good guitar porrn, 'cat...:o

Dread, I recall your Strat-o-killer from the Wash site, and you really made yourself a penultimate custom model. Love the 'Fenderishlogo o nthe headstock:rotflmao:

Don't use stickers, use non-adhesive "transfer decals"... preferably water transfer decals because they won't damage the finish and can be removed if desired in the future.

I guess that the sonic blue dream sounds more "classic" stratocaster than the deluxe? If they only offered that model with a maple neck, I would be flashing el credito sooo fast! I really need/want/desire a vintage tinted maple neck strat. Blue.

Oh yeah... I see lots of those around, (stickers too.) I don't care much for that stuff tho. Try Google search for Water-slide decal paper or custom transfer decal or some such wording. If you get the water-slide paper you can ink-jet print your own.

Seen lots of custom airbrushing too. Talk to a tattoo artist... most do airbrush too. They do great custom work for reasonable prices.

Jeff Beck Noiseless and they sound wonderfull. They grunt like a nice single coil and yet I can play way up high and the have a great singing voice. I think the Delta Tone thing has something to do with it. I have never liked playing on the Strat bridge pickup for anything but rythym before but this ones sounds great in any position.

Here is a pic of my mexican Squier Strat. I picked it up for $125. I played about a dozen guitars in the store that day but kept drifting back to this one because it just played so easily, and has a good natural tone to it. My Gibson is still my primary instrument, but this Strat is a LOT of fun to play.

Here's my modded beast. It's a 1991 Fender American Standard. I forget what the color is called. It's one of those early 90's colors that you try to avoid. I've swapped out the tuners for locking Sperzels. The pickups are Seymour Duncan Lil' 59/Vintage Rail/Cool Rail tied together with a Megaswitch that does who knows what. I've also replaced the stock bridge with a Wilkinson trem.

R of G, what store was it where you picked that up? It has an interesting look and I wouldn't mind checking it out.

I just came from a friends house and he has an MIA Fender Strat and HATES it. I tried to work a trade, but we couldn't come to an agreement. So I left with some GAS, but the need to spend far less.

Strum, I found it at my local Guitar Center around this time of year two years ago.
