Going off the Flashlight (my pick is any maglite) and Binocular threads..

I was wondering , which folding pocket knife do you carry?

I use to always carry a little Spyderco for years.. serrated always.

I lost many of them to..sigh.. so started picking up those $5.00 folders
that look alot like the better made blades and actually work fine.

I am thinking of trying a gerber f.a.s.t. draw with serrated edge (about-35-45.00).. and with a less active life style..it might be the last one for awhile..

I have an old school Old Timer that I sometimes carry in my pocket. What would be really cool though would be to have one of these

A Kershaw Leek Rainbow Knife like one my fishing buddy has that I should steal from him.

I've carried my Wenger Swiss Army Soldier model knife I bought at Ramstein AB, Germany for 20 years, and have used it almost every day.

This is the model issued to soldiers in the Swiss Army.

I'm with Tone on this one. I've always been an Old Timer guy. Unfortunately these days I don't carry a pocket knife anymore. With metal detectors at all the Courthouses and general paranoia, I just leave the thing at home.:(

I quit carrying knives because I traveled so much I was tried on having them confiscated at airport. I always have a pick or two as Robert already mentioned. I always carry my trusty stainless steel pen. I never leave home without it. Another old habit from work.

Yup. Forgot to mention that I work at an airport and pretty much leave the knives at home until the weekends.

I thought so! But I did not mention it because Big Brother might be reading our posts and would pick up on our plans to convince everyone in the world to carry knives.

Usually, I do not carry a knife with me.
The only pocket knife I had was a pretty extended version of the Swiss Pocket Knife, whis was stolen from me on a trip some couple yeas ago.

Currently, I have a handful of picks in my right pocket, my Nokia mobile phone in the front pocket of my cargo trousers and the keys to my appartments in the left side.

The serrated blade knives are very good for their intended purpose - ripping through coarse or tough material. For fine cutting, they're not so good. For instance, I'd never use a serrated blade knife for skinning, but for cutting rope (especially wet rope), cardboard, and materials of irregular construction in general, they're great.

The little Swiss Army pocket knife I pictured above, is a great little knife. It's small, light, and it's made of German Soligen steel that takes an edge really well. You can pick one up with free shipping for $8.95 from this place:

http://www.swissknifeshop.com/

There may be places on the web that are cheaper, but with such a small, inexpensive item such as this, shipping charges would cost as much as the knife itself, if not more.

It mainly was needed.. to cut rope, metal etc..
once I got use to using them, I wouldn't be without it..
I use to cut more of that stuff than filet fish..
Although most have enough of a blade for skinning etc..

Bloozcat, That Cold Steel sure is nice..wish they had a 3inch one!!

Edit: Cool..they do... http://www.knifesite.com/Cold-Steel-Voyager-Clip-Point-Metal-Clip-3-in-p/29mch.htm

Nuthin other than the occasional note to self or guitar pick in my pockets. I tend to lose knives, leathermen, etc., and am in and out of courthouses where you can't take 'em in anyhoo.

Here ya go Justa...at a great price too! And this one is the fully serrated edge, not the partial. They may be discontinuing the fully serrated 3" blade. I don't see it listed many places.

Hello Bloozcat,

M29

Believe it or not, after about 10 years of owning my Cold Steel serrated Voyager, I haven't had to sharpen it (except for the very tip where it's not serrated). It cuts through everything just like it's new. It's has an incredible blade. I have two of the Cold Steel kitchen series knives as well (a 4" and an 8"), and I've yet to sharpen either one of those either...and they're as old as my Voyager. I have an 8" Cutco kitchen knife with a serrated edge. It's 5-years old, and it's still as sharp as ever too. Another great blade. I don't know what it is about the construction of these knives, but they just stay sharp.

However, If you did have to sharpen one, you could use a good diamond sharpening steel to do it. It's a pain, because you have to sharpen in each scalloped recess of the serrated blade, and the smaller tooth-like serrations are really hard to do.

Very good price on them.. welp, one is in the mail..
I guess the gerber will have to wait till the next life...
Anything over 3 inch blade just gets to heavy in my pocket.

I settled on 50/50 model..

It might not look like much, but it will take out a matchbox car or truck from a range of 3 feet.

Shame on you for going for Matchboxes when we all know that Hot Wheels is where the real sport is. :D

Spud,

I'm not as young as I use to be and the Hot Wheels are too fast for me. The game is Matchbox and preferably the slower trucks.

My dad built a huge hot wheel race world in our basement when I was a kid. Totally cool.
