We have a little Miniature Pinscher (http://www.dolphinstreet.com/miniature_pinscher/) - a real nice little guy. Very sociable and cuddly, but at the same time he's quite bold and uncompromising. It's a very active kind of dog, very playful and fun.

We had a Bichon Frise for a long time, but she got (too) old.

Good thread Robert. Your minpin looks like he's a lot of fun.

For those that don't already know, my wife and I breed Shih Tzu's - and I can't remember the last time I had more fingers and toes than dogs.

Here are some pups we've bred

And here are our Huskies (We used to breed Huskies too but these are just pets)

We've also got a half dozen Angora Rabbits. Yup, they're breeders too but that's my wife's department.

Our family has two Rat Terriers: Lilo and Felix. My daughter saved her money and purchased Felix about 3 years ago. I always liked big dogs, but I got such a kick out of Felix that I decided to buy another and purchased Lilo. Lilo is 10 lbs and Felix is 20 lbs. They both wear Harley Davidson collars to give them a tough appearance.

In addition to the dogs - 1 cat, 1 snake, 3 scorpions, 3 tarantulas, and a millipede, but all of those belong to my son who is a Zoology major.

This is Katie, she's CB's puppy. She's a "peekapamp". Half peekapoo, half tramp.

This is Churchill. He was my chocolate lab, but he passed a few years ago.

And though I wouldn't consider him a pet, this little critters been hangin' around in the back yard for a few days. I've been trying to get some decent pictures, but this is the most interesting one I've been able to come up with so far.

Shiner, I'll bet Churchill was a great dog.

We have a three legged wonderdog from the local animal shelter, and he's really a great dog. Good dispostion and very laid back.

Our mini dachsund, on the other hand is the opposite. Hyper and full of energy, but a good dog as well!

We have 2 cats, Rufas and Velcro. Velcro is more my wifes cat, very friendly, never bites etc, Rufas is more my cat, friends and family think he's a nutjob, but I say he's just misunderstood.

After I read Shiners post, I thought it would be good to mention Chief. He was with us from the time we built our house until last Halloween. After many years of enjoyment, he became ill and it was time to leave.

He was half Lab, half Brittney Spaniel. His brothers and sisters were all black with long tails, and he was tan and white with no tail - just had to get him.

We had a pet squirrel, but he's in rehab right now.

We got a new one, but he seems to be going down the same path

We have a half-mini dachshund by the name of Molly. I have never had a dog before (I had cats), but after our cat died a few year ago our children talked us into getting a dog. She turned out to be a good companion except she barks at a lot of things and people and is very loud.

We had a couple of birds for a few years. Abby the female died a year or so ago and Maxwell the male bird died a few weeks ago.

Just a cat, a 14 year old Calico female (all Calico's are females), named Pookie.

We wisper in hushed tones that "she's retarded", because she can be pretty dopey at times. She never learned proper cat etiquette as a kitten, like how to clean herself properly, and where to go to do her "business".

Still, she's very loving, but only with my wife and I. My wife calls her "my" cat, because she hangs out with me more than my wife. But then again, I'm the one who takes care of her and plays with her, most of the time.

The furry little critters really do worm their way into our hearts, don't they?

Not sure your source Bloozcat, but MOST not ALL calico cats are female. The trait is primarily a female trait, but does occur in male cats very rarely. Partial credit for you.

From wikipedia on "tortoiseshell cats"

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tortoiseshell_cat

Coat coloration in cats is complex, and controlled by several genes. One gene involved has two alleles: the Orange allele, O, which is the dominant form, (XO), and produces orange fur; and the "Black" allele, "o", which is the recessive form, (Xo), and produces black fur.
For a cat to be a tortoiseshell or calico, it must simultaneously express both of the alleles, O and o, which are two versions of the same gene, located at the same locus on the X chromosome. Males normally cannot do this: they can have only one allele, as they have only one X chromosome, consequently virtually all tortoiseshell or calico cats are females. Occasionally a male is born (the rate is approximately 1 in 3,000 [3]). These may have Klinefelter's syndrome, carrying an extra X chromosome, and will almost always be sterile or they may be a chimera resulting from the fusion of two differently coloured embryos.

They sure do...
each has a mind and personality of it's own..

We have about 8-10 cats that come and go around the house inside and out...

This one is my favorite.. rejected at birth.. I bottle fed her..
She remembers.. and pays me back daily..

She actually took in 4 kittens from another and has raised them.

she stays in with me , rather than wanting to run with the pack..
Becoming a good guitar tech and player..

here, she is checking relief ...
http://home.carolina.rr.com/genstuff/Justaguyin_nc/CatNeckRelief.jpg

Here she is checking the tuning..

http://home.carolina.rr.com/genstuff/Justaguyin_nc/MyCoolCat.jpg

We also have two basset hounds "Bonnie and Clyde" that stay out in the yard in their own kennel...

They are very jealous of the cats..
But are well taken care of and played with daily.

Oh as for the question about calicos.. that means three colored cat..
and 99% of the time they are Females..

Hey Katastrophe, Churchill was completely loyal and had the sweetest demeanor of any dog I've ever had the pleasure of owning (do we really own them, or do they own us?). I rescued him from a previous owner when he was about six years old. He had mange, heartworms, you name it. Fortunately (and completely unknown to either of us), my vet recognized him immediately as one of the labs she had bred, and was so grateful for saving him that she never charged me for her time. He got me through the divorce from "the evil ***** who must not be named" (yup, that was her real name:eek: ). I finally had to put him to sleep a few years ago after he developed several tumors. He's buried in my back yard now under a pecan tree.

That's correct, it's not "all", it's virtually all, or almost all, Calico's that are female. I know that there is the occasional male Calico, but I've yet to see one. Interestingly, even my vet, who has seen thousands of cats, has yet to see one. While not as scarce as hens teeth, male Calico's are indeed, rare.

I actually had no idea until I read your first post then did a little more reading how rare it was. Even at 1 in 3,300, you'd think you'd still see the odd male calico here or there given the feral cat populations. Very interesting.

I have never had any pets, mainly because of my parents, but if I did have a pet, it would probably be a chicken, think about it, every morning or so you get eggs for breakfast, and when it dies, the funeral can be dinner! Now just to find out colonel (or is it kernel?) sanders's secret spice mix.....

Absolutely brilliant.:AOK:
Cept you have to be careful around them while they are alive....cause they are always tossing their peckers around. (whatever that means)

Heres our two little ones Annie and Hootch. The more I know people the more I love dogs always had em always will. These two can be especially funny as hell and Annie the Pappillion likes to ride the Motorcyle and jetski with us. Hootch the Chuihua is more partial to kickin back with a good bone.

I've had a couple rescue dogs, and they seem to turn out to be the best dogs to have. Must be that they recognize where they came from, and how much better life is after the rescue.

And, yep, they really do own us.:D

Our dog, Mugsy.

http://www.box.net/shared/cs2l9tygu7

My wife found him here in town, he was barely weaned and the lady who was trying to give him away said if she went back to the house with him her husband was going to "get rid of him myself".
Now he's about a hundred pounds of puppy. He does the usual sit/lay down/play dead/gimme a high five/speak, plus brings in the newspaper each morning, and he's just entertaining to have around.
Oh, nobody (including stray dogs/strangers/salespeople) bothers the girls when I'm gone, either.
