LOL!!!! Mine is:

Monster Mash - Bobby 'Boris' Pickett & The Crypt Kickers

My kids love that song and we regularly play a "Monster Mash" compilation full of a bunch of those silly, old, Monster surf style hits. Wolfman Jack would be proud!

For the day I was married:

Figures the day I was born would have the worst song in the whole world as a #1 record. I don't think I'm going to bragging about this song in conjunction with my birthday. Surprisingly that is the first time I've ever heard the song...and hopefully the last.

Irony is that I grew up in Montana not to far from the battlefield site.

Heh, heh - sadly my wife would consider you some kind of god or at the very least one of the luckiest people in the world. As for me, you have my sympathy although my list is nothing to brag about.

So the weekend I was born, Edwin Starr's "War" took the top slot away from Bread's "Make It With You." Works for me, as I despise both war and cheesy music.:Dude:

If Mr Custer was #1, how bad do you think #2 thru 20 were.

Scary thought. Or think of the artist back then that were knocked down the chart by Mr Custer. After that blow, they may have left the record business.

I'm with you, WW--a good stout seems to bring out the worst in me  !!

As for harder liquors, I, too, prefer mine neat--a 3:1 mixture of Amaretto to Cognac, but the Cognac has to be primo quality and it has to be in a brandy snifter. I heat it over a candle, stick my nose into the snifter, and ........awaaaaay we go  !!!!

OOPS--Off Topic, I know, but since I couldn't get the program to go far enough back to reach my age, I had to offer some sort of comment.

Had to go back and check out the Aussie charts.

"Sadie The Cleaning Lady" by Johnny Farnham

A5x6qTh1DR4

EDIT AGAIN: Ain't the internet wonderful? Okay, this boy, Johnny went on to huge success Down Under, fronted the Little River Band for a time in the early 80's and is considered by many (in Austrailia anyway) to be the best voice in popular music. Not too shabby. There. You learn sumptin' every day.

MORE EDIT: Holy 80's Batman - it's THIS guy! I'd totally forgot about him!

US: All I Have To Do Is Dream - The Everly Brothers
UK: Who’s Sorry Now? - Connie Francis
AUS: Catch A Falling Star – Perry Como

I'll go with thte US charts. Funny thing, my parents had a 45 single of Perry Como's "Catch A Falling Star"-- probably still have it.

Don't know Spud's birthday, but 1960 had a couple of other novelty hits -'Alley Oop' by the Hollywood Argyles, 'Itsy Bitsy Teeny Weeny Yellow Polka Dot Bikini' by Brian Hyland (revived this summer in a yogurt commercial:puke: ), and the 1st release of Chubby Checker's 'The Twist'.

In spite of all that fun stuff, '60 was also the year the Ventures hit it with their 1st version of 'Walk Don't Run', and that was the song that got me started playing guitar (since the 'This Day In Music' site's charts don't go back to when I was born, I'll take this as a substitute anniversary anytime.

I found that minutiae when I hit this site, where you can search songs by title, artist or search a year, and 1960 turns up 30 songs with those I listed among them. Some pretty decent tunes, but other pukers like 'Teen Angel'...

1960 was a poor year for music. Looking at your list 1959 and 1961 had some kick butt cool songs, but not 1960. Maybe that void just made room for me to enter the world? Mr. Custer doesnt even show on this list.
