For you Tele fans:
What do you think are the most highly regarded, highly sought-after Telecaster models for either playing or collecting, and what makes them special? I’m talking about off-the-shelf, stock Teles, no mods. Maybe you own one...maybe you want one. Any thoughts??

I'd be extremely happy with this.

I am not enamored by the definitive "tele" sound. I do LOVE the shape of the tele though. I already have the one and only tele I have lusted after since I grew hair on my balls...

I have another like it from the cheaper Diamond Series line as well for the office, etc.

The Vintage Hot Rod '52 model. Just a very cool, Micawber-vibe Tele in my favorite color combo:

CS Nocaster all the way.

and the Baja too... everything I ever wanted in a tele.. from color to fretboard radius and pickups, just needed a nitro finish for more mojo! I never played one but the specs make me crazy to put my hands in one of them.

I guess to start, I'd want that '52 reissue like the one Springsteen gave away here last year. Then a decent MIM to mod up with humbuckers or sumthin. http://www.instrumentpro.com/image.php?src=/Merchant2/graphics/00000001/fen0100202.jpg&PHPSESSID=d3cfec9c43bd4bbe9682b20737c25407

That 52 Hot Rod looks cool... 72 Custom or 72 Deluxe...

But I'd really like to get my hands on this one:

I saw this 1969 Tele listed in the Vintage section of a guitar shop I frequently browse online. This one has gone almost 40 years without being tinkered with!

Pretty cool! :AOK:

Based on owner raves vs. complaints, if I could have only one, it'd be

a Muddy Waters!

Lots of mojo...

If I could only have one it would be like so:
thinline ash body with F-hole and flame maple top,
died blue with cream binding,
either no pickguard or a white pearloid,
eith s/s or s/h(bridge/neck) with coil tap on the volume knob,
all maple neck w/black block inlays and black binding.

however, since it has to be stock I'd go with the CS tele thinline -OR- CS '59 esquire reissues.

edit: the CS could also be the mexican classic reissues, because they're cheaper.

I'm with you on this matter.

I don't have a good picture, but about 17 secs. in you can see the one I like here. I wish I could get those low E bends in tune every time, tho.:rotflmao:
If I could change one thing, I'd get another one in "vintage" white to go with my butterscotch blond.

It's got to be the rosewood Tele like George played.

I played this aerodyne tele a Sam Ash about 6 months ago and it was awesome. Set neck, P90 neck pup and a Seymour Duncan Duckbucker in the bridge (It was used) and you talk about tone city...I was there with all kinds of amps. It sounded esp. sweet with 18 watt blues breaker clone they had there.....man, IF I wasn't so broke and all, I think I would have owned it.
