Mudcat,

How do you like that amp? It looks like it could blow a whole in the wall when it's cranked.

So that's one of the house musicians that you've noted from time-to-time. Good looking kid, how long has he been playing now?

Strum it blows 100 watts all tube with celestions in all cabs. Its from the 80's of course and most likely will stop a charging rhino with a quick barre chord, and a dimed out array of knobs:beer:

My oldest boy chase(pictured)has been playing since 10.
My 12 and 10 are on drums and bass but they all switch off for fun and to learn other instruments once in awhile.:Dude:

Love to see the father/son stuff! We don't have the stacks at our house yet, but it is fun to have some father/kid play time. Congrats, that gear looks absolutely awesome. I think it helps to have some decent stuff to keep the kids engaged.

Can't see the pix from here at work ( our IS dept. blocks photo hosting sites :reallymad: ), but it's funny you should mention Carvins. Somehow, I got on their mailing list and was looking through their latest catalog a few days ago. Was doing some serious drooling over a CT6M Cali Carved Top with a deep blue quilted maple top. Gorgeous instrument. They remind me a lot of the high-end PRS's, but at much more reasonable prices. If I was going to drop $1500 or so on a guitar, that might very well be the one I'd go for. Looks like a lot of guitar for the money! The posted sound clip was impressive, too. :AOK:

EDIT: Here's the one I was looking at, from the Carvin website--

I got on their mailing list too. I figured they are affiliated with one of the other mailings I get.

As for the pics - wait to you get home!!!

I have a koa DC200 from 1981 that I ordered from the factory when they first showed koa guitars in their catalog. I had worked with koa wood for furniture and know how beautiful a wood it is, so when I found out Carvin was building koa guitars I had to have one. It is a nice guitar but I have to admit that I don't play it very often as the fretboard is little too flat for my taste.

Voodoo:yea carvin as you might know are still the only catalog mail order guitar company. No middleman no mark up!! Valuewise and or craftmanship wise it compares very well if not better than the big names. The best way is to get an instock one if you find one that meets your specs. My v220 has taken 3 months to build but is going to be solid swampash, ebony board with abalone diamond inlays and trans purple with a blackburst edge!! Cant wait!:crazyguy:

At one time I had one of the best collections of the shreadder neck 24.75 88-93 neck through Carvins around. I still have a 1991 X220C a 90 X220C in Pearl Pink and a Deep Purple flame 2002 DC400.
Great gear and it "used to be" a great company to deal with.
Here are a few of my old Carvins most are long gone now.

I love DC 150s from the eighties and any of the 200 or 400 series from that era. The only Carvin that I owned was a nice DC 727 that I bought on Ebay. (http://s222.photobucket.com/albums/dd105/hubberjub/Moved%20On/?action=view&current=DSCN0031.jpg) It was Claro Walnut with a five piece neck and a fixed bridge. I sold it about six months ago. I thought it was a great guitar for the money (I paid $400 used for mine) but I had no use for a seven string so it just sat in it's case.

Yep the X220's were MUCH different guitars from the V220's. I sold off the V220's and kept a pair of the X's. Both of my X's are quite the rare birds.
The 1990 is in Pearl Pink with a reverse headstock and the 1991 is a 22 fret 25.5 strat scale X and may be the only one produced!!
Here is "pinky"

The Black X on the far left with no neck inlay is the LS 175 option 22 fretter

I get the Carvin catalog as well. I was intriguiged by the California (whatever the letters n' numbers are) and the Allan Hooldsworth fatboy.

I read a review somewhere that claimed that they were well made but lacked character so I sort of lost interest.

Tell me something different ;) :)

No kidding, Queen Pinky looks like she is just about to invade France.

Most used Carvins hold their value quite well. This one would be a bargain. These were Canadian hardrock maple bodies and necks, neckthrough, MOP or abalone inlays, and heavy enough to sustain nicely.
Not flashy, just a real workhorse with great tone, and well built in N. America.
(NO, I'm not the seller, just steering Carvin-ites toward a bargain... helping cure G.A.S., one fretter at a time.)
