The Lounge Lizards were a NYC based creation of sax-player John Lurie and his brother Evan [piano]. The initial line-up featured Arto Lindsay [co-founder of seminal "No-Wave" band DNA,] on guitar. He departed the band after their first album, and was replaced by a young Marc Ribot. It was a perfect fit for Ribot, who often cites Lindsay as one of his big influences. In short, Lurie described the music as "fake jazz," which is not particularly descriptive. Listening to it, from the instrumentation and arrangements jazz is clearly the primary genre, but there is quite a bit of punk and electric blues, as well as some other styles. For a guy like me who loves jazz and punk [and believes there to be a natural connection between the two], the Lounge Lizards are a band I listen to quite a lot.

Here is some video from the 80's.
