GASsing for a Hollowbody

Not like I have the cash or anything, but I've really caught the bug for a full hollowbody big ol' honkin jazz box style gutar.

I know Warren has his Ibanez artcore... How ya likin it so far, Warren?

I was thinkning that if we have any Gretsch owners that someone will chime in. They make a model (5120, I believe) that's within the range of mere mortals to own.

Any of the recent Washie forum converts to thefret own a Oscar Schmidt full hollowbody? I know they were on sale for super cheap on MF a while back, but are no longer there.

Finally, I saw on MF that they have a full hollowbody from a brand named "Fusion Blues" that looks pretty cool. A little internet digging, and I found that they are made by Switch guitars, but with all wood. Switch also makes Drive amphs (or they contract out to make them).

What do you think???:drool: Anyone else have the bug, too?

Well I didn't have the bug until...

I was looking at the Gretsch Orange 5120 and man that is tempting. Whenever I go into a music store I have to stay away from the Gretsch guitars because to me they are not only a nice guitar, they are a piece of art.

Anyway, if you can afford that guitar new or used, I would consider it if you are real serious about getting a jazz box (and unable to afford a white falcon). That said, I also looked at the Fusion Blues - The Metropolitan Deluxe FB 600 and at that price it is tempting. Part of that temptation is the outcome for the Drive equipment in the other thread.

As for Washburn or Oscar, I've heard good things about the J6, but you will have to pick one up on e-bay or find a used one locally. Washburn's J7 is nice, but you are looking at about $150 more than the 5120.

I know that doesn't help you much, but it is letting me live one of my fantasies through your money:D

I'm not familiar with that model except I see that the reviews aren't that good when it comes to action, fit and finish. I know Washburn has been running into problems with quality and availability with their acoustic guitars and it's possible that the same problem exists with the hollow body guitars as well. It's suppose to have been resolved, but I haven't heard anything to support that. If I was buying one, it would probably be best to do it from a local shop.

I found only one review for a Fusion Blue and it was the FB200. For what it's worth it was a pretty good review.

That orange Gretsch 5120 is doing a number on me and when that starts to subside, the black 5120 kicks in the GAS again.

If you're hot for a Gretsch you might want to look into a Reverend Club King RT (the RT stands for Revtron, Reverends version of filtertron pups).

Not as sexy as a Gretsch, but it has the vibe & is quite a bit cheaper.

BTW, I bought my Dot used, and the stock pickups had already been changed. It now has the Duncan "hotrodded humbucker" combo in it--an SH-2 Jazz at the neck, installed by the previous owner, and an SH-4 JB at the bridge, that I put in.

The Hagstrom HL-550 is cool, I played one in the local music store. I think it's strictly a jazz box though, but a very nice one.

I had the same urge a year ago. Something about a hollow body guitar just called out to me,,,,

I feel that I was lucky to find one on ebay for a decent price. $350.

Washburn J6, Korean, Buzz feiten, OHSC, natural finish. I took off the gold tuning buttons and put on ebony. Looking to change out the tailpiece for something in ebony.

I am not a jazz player, but, as I said, the guitar just has a hold on me.

I have even decided that if things were to go really wrong and I was forced to sell off my guitars, I would keep the hollow body and let the accoustics go first. That, is how much I like this style of guitar.

Those Epi Dots definitely look like a good value. I still am lured by the visuals on the Gretsch and the Viking Deluxe. If I got serious, I suppose going and playing them would be necessary to see which tone I really liked better. Anyone do that? Like I said in another thread, watching and listening to Setzer again got me on this thing.

I had a Turser Les Paul copy that was pretty nice and am sorry I sold it. These Tursers are hit and miss so I am on pins and needles waiting to see what it looks and plays like. The clear pickguard has gotta go!
I am kind of burnt out a little on the shape of the 335 style and I liked the looks of this body. We will see what we will see...:messedup:

sorry i missed this thread earlier...i have to say i really do like my artcore....the finis and craftmanship is excellent and it sounds good both plugged in and acoustic!

It could probably benefit from better pickups but the stock ones sound good to me! I would recommend it for sure.
