A dream of mine finally came true...

One month ago I got this used (but in PERFECT condition) Gibson ES335 guitar:

Unfortunately I'm too busy this period with my job and I don't have much time to write about it, but in a few words, it sound and plays WONDERFUL!!!

Check these 2 short clips that I've recorded with it:

"Sleepwalk"

http://www.box.net/shared/1c0nz8m9rv

Left Speaker: Neck pickup
Middle: Bridge pickup
Right Speaker: Both pickups

(I guess that I should have cut some treble on my amp on this recording...)

"Concierto de Aranjuez"

http://www.box.net/shared/faxpasdb3m

Left speaker (rythm): Both pickups
Right speaker: Neck pickup

On this recording I cut some tremble on my amp, so it has a more jazzy sound.

The recordings sound wonderful! Are those recorded through your Hot Rod Deluxe? And what strings do you have on your beautiful 335?

I have a Heritage H535 (you can see pictures under the ES-135 thread from R_of_G) and I'm trying different things to get that nice jazz tone. I have flatwound strings on it now. I may want to try different pickups than the stock Schallers that are on there now.

By the way, I recorded a version of Sleepwalk too some time ago, but it was not done with my Heritage. I posted the song here before.

Elavd, that sounded tremendous! Great tone!

What strings do you have on the 335? I'm currently using Ernie Ball Power Slinky .11's on my HB-30, but thinking of dropping down to 10's. Has anyone tried lighter guage strings like 9's on hollow or semi-hollow bodied guitars?

Thoughts?

EDIT: Hey great Fretter minds think alike, eh?

First of all, thank you all for your kind words ;)

@ aeolian & t_ross33:
I use an Elixir set 10-46, but I think that this guitar needs at least an 11 set to sound best, so I'll probably give it a try soon...

On strats and teles I use 9-42 sets, but on Gibson (that have a shorter scale) I can play with 10s and maybe 11s ;)

I've recorded those clips, using a Shure SM57 infront of a crappy-transistor based Marshall practice amp. The signal was led to my Presonus Tubepre preamp and then directly to the Audiophile 2496 soundcard.

I only used some VST reverb on SONAR.

@ Robert:

I lately try to control my GAS but with no results...:rotflmao:

That is one amazing sounding guitar.....I have got to add a semi hollowbody to the herd early next year.

Oh you slay me!!! The look and the sounds are so beautiful! And I have been GASing for hollows and semi-hollows too. I think a hollow or semi-hollow is second on my list for new guitars after a new acoustic.

Here is another recording of mine with my ES335, over a funky backing track:

http://www.box.net/shared/4bigpzvtxg

0:00"-0:40": I use the neck pickup
0:40"-1:00": I use both pickups while playing without a pick
1:00-fade out: Neck pickup with Boss SD-1 overdrive

just strum

That is one beautiful guitar. I saw the post at work, but couldn't play the music (blocked) so I figure I would wait until I got home to comment.

Listened to the songs and after listening to Sleepwalk, I had a hankering to find a woman with a Lincoln MKX and a surfboard.

But back to the guitar: Nice guitar, great tone and some nice playing.

I think that on my last clip, I got close to the "335-sound" that I have in mind... (Well my friend Abraxas doesn't agree with that :D )

Of course the part where I play with the overdrive, is not so good, but I'll try to record a new clip with a better overdriven sound ;)
